Working during Bad Weather
Permalink

Does anyone know the Kroger policy for missing work due to poor weather? We're supposed to get 10-15 inches of snow Tuesday into Wednesday. In Ohio if there is a Level 3 snow empergercy it is illegal to drive on the roads period. Management at my store says we have to come in to work no matter what. Can I go to the union if I refuse to go to work in the event of a Level 3? I live in a rural area, the store is in a rural area and they won't be treated with salt or plowed until it done snowing. I really don't want to get written up.

Call out saying your kid is sick or some garbage like that, the only reason they'd give you a write up is if you're a no call no show, unless you worked at my kroger where instead of 3 strikes you're out, it's 3 strikes -in a row- this kid would not come to work mon, tues would come in wed and not show up thurs or friday. Yeah, he was buddy buddies with the customer service manager.

From the Scioto County Sherriff's office (dont live there but its in Ohio)

 http://sciotocountysheriff.com/SnowEmergencyLevels.html

Level 3 - A Level Three Snow Emergency means that roads are closed to all non-essential personnel. No one should be out during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. Those traveling on any roadway in the county may subject themselves to citation or arrest.

Based on the above comment, it seems like your manager has stated they expect you to come into work.  That being said, if its a heavy snow and business comes to a crawl, you may be called and told that you don't have to come in.  If there is nothing to do then hours can be shaved off the schedule.  Of course, it also depends on where and what time you work.
