I went in for an interview about two weeks ago for the Starbucks inside of a Kroger, and I was told that I got the job. Also, she told me that she would call me within 4-5 days once my drug and criminal background test came back to set-up orientation. Two-weeks went by and I didn't hear a word, and I decided to call them on Tuesday. They informed me that all of the positions had been filled after they had already told me I had the job. What kind of company operates under those practices? Also, I am sure Starbucks wouldn't be happy to know the hiring process that is representing their brand name. I know it won't make any difference regarding a job, but should I complain to either Kroger or Starbucks to explain the experience?
Ask if you can be used anywhere else. They pay for drug tests, it seems they are out the money they might just use you some place else. It seems department heads, co-managers, store managers and people at corporate do our hiring- sometimes they are not all on the same page. It happens with big companies. If there was one person doing all the hiring, they should get fired- but it's different people. Ask to speak with a manager, tell them you did your drug test and they all ready hired someone for starbucks- but that you are willing to work in x or y department.
In response to the first reply, I have my Bachelor's, Master's, and am working on my Ph.D . I am looking for a part-time job just for extra spending money, so next time keep your comments to yourself. I am not one to make-fun of one's job, but since you brought it up. I, unlike you, will not be "bagging groceries" for the remainder of my life. This is why these forums never work because uneducated idiots like yourself have access to computers. As for the second reply, thank you for your help, I will not be seeking further employment at this company, I was just wondering if I should inform someone higher-up in management of a verbal contract for employment, and negating that contract as being bad business practices, both for Kroger and Starbucks sake. I appreciate your help!
Welcome to Kroger. They hire 4 people for 1 spot. They know that no one will work long once they realize that they get 12 hours a week. We currently have 8 front end employees with 0 hours this week. Side note. if your only sense of self worth is that you are working on your Ph.D. And that your not a bagger, I kinda feel sorry for you. I know many people who have been bagger for 15 or more years. They like their jobs, they do a good job at it, and they make the experience for the customer that much better. Maybe not because of their superior bagging skills, but because they don't see themselves as someone who wouldn't be caught dead being a bagger for the rest of their lives.
It sucks to have so much education and have to do a minimum wage job. I have a BA in Education. I worked as an educator bringing home a good salary for 15 yrs. Schools only want to hire teachers right out of college with no experience. Epic fail! I feel your pain...
