There is so much drama because of vacation. People change their vacation just to bumb others vacation. There is so much fighting going on and it is so stupid. Is this just our store or is it every store?
every year - at the start of the year - your store should be passing out VACATION REQUEST forms for all employees to fill out. they are turned in by the end of january then the HR Coordinator has something to do for the next several weeks (if you ever wondered what the hell this person does besides pass out payroll checks this is the other 1/2 of their job). a vacation calendar should then be postes in your break room so every one knows who is going on vacation when. seniority takes precedence when the calendar is made that is why you give several choices of weeks off. sure things can change a little but for the most part you stick by this. i do not know what specifically is going on at your store but sounds like they are not sticking to this format. i personally do not like picking out of the blue what weeks i want off way early in the year. how the hell do i know then. and maybe i wish to split up my time more than the 2 weeks that i get. so anyways it is a little convoluted but go as where the heck is the vacation calendar.

Our store does not have an HR person. The 2 file clerks enter the payroll, change prices, are our first call up for register, and does the hiring. Our vacation sheet is put up by the breakroom at the begining of Jan. It is a chart that everyone fills in and can see what everyone else is taking and take their vacation if they want to and their senority will allow it. The chart is left up until March 1 then whatever is on their is final.
At our store each department has their own vacation schedule. It's simply a chart with everyone's name down the side with the number of vacations allotted and across the top are the dates. You simply mark an X in the spot where your name intersects the date for the week you want to take. The schedules are suppose to be posted by January 31 and you have until March 15 to make your selection. If there's a problem with one of the weeks you select they have to let you know by April 1. Anyone who does not choose their vacation(s) by March 15 has to choose from the remaining weeks and it's up to the department head and management as to whether or not you'll be allowed to go that week.
i don't bother signing up.. i'm a part-time cashier, have 1 vacation week, and i only work 2-3 days per week. if i were to request the week off, they'll give it to me.
