Got an e-mail posted at our sco station a few days ago about a scam that's going around.
people have those apps on their cell phones to put barcodes for store cards, and i guesshave been putting merchandise barcodes (like cheap meat) and scan it then put a steak down in the bag instead. then sco cashiers are just overriding the weight difference and not paying attention.
has anyone had this problem? with my experience, the u-scan doesn't scan off the phone, we always have to use the cordless grey handheld (not the ipad) to scan barcodes off cell phones, so i would be able to tell if it was a kroger card or a barcode for an item.
anyways, just thought it was a little odd, but didn't know if people have scanned off their phone using the uscan
That is very clever but I do not see the point. Seems like a lot of trouble to go through. i guess I just do not get it b/c I do not think like a crook

I've tried using my cell phone at another store's UScan's (our store doesn't have this luxury) and have ran into the same problem. The registers are at an angle to where the sensors will not recognize the barcode. The only place it works is anywhere that has a handheld scanner (Deli or service desk).
I see it getting to the point that employees are going to be instructed to stop customers from using smartphones in stores for product comparison. I know it sounds asinine but there are apps where you scan products on your cell phone and it shows a comparison of prices locally and online. Grocery items are meaningless but something such as DVD's it does come in handy. Walmart is cracking down on it and stopping customers from doing it from what I have heard.

If thieves took all of the time they used coming up with scams like this and used it to find a job we could cut most of the stores expenses by not having to have a security person help watch u-scan.
