Team Stocking Guides etc...!!!

EXTREME waste of time!!! Takes too long to set it up for the day. Never mapped out right. And NOW they are saying if we get caught "pencil whipping" or fudging as we call it, we will be terminated!!! The brass are bitching about how much the company spends on paper, but they still want us to print up everything we do even if we scan just one backstock item. I think we use a tree a day. We are very understaffed. I have worked for Kroger for more than 20 years and I remember when we had bigger crews and stuff got done, period. Now everyone runs around like chickens with the heads cut off trying to keep up with stock, paperwork, customers, checking(most days only one regular checker and one uscan checker, that's it!), and sacking. Everyone's miserable and the store manager just sits up in his office. Lot's of call-ins and if you tell him about it, it's "DRAMA" and he doesn't like that. It would mean he actually has to do something. Maybe it's just my store but Kroger is one crappy job these days. They ONLY care about the money and it shows.

Something I've never agreed with when it comes to the team stocking guides is that it is technically considered "piece rate".  According to your union contract, you are paid an hourly wage, not by how many cases you can stock in an entire shift.

One dept head at the store I work at didn't do the team stocking guides for a couple of days and was written up for it.  He filed a grievance and during the hearing was told by the district manager that it "was not an option and had to be done".  We had a weaker union rep then and the guy we have now is a bulldog, so it will be interesting if this ever comes back up.

The thing about printing out the backstock item is verify the count. We should all ready have been doing that. If all the product is not going to the shelf, we need to scan it and see why it came it. I think we got so bogged down we weren't doing it with every item. We would "check it later," "wait until we had a gun." By getting that print out we have to force ourselves to do it right. It sucks, but eventually maybe our numbers will be on target.

Don't get me started on the team stocking guide. Our aisle numbers and counts are off. There is no way it's accurate. I fill in my time and hope the second person completes the rest of it, they don't. At my store management finalizes the team stocking guides because the others won't.

Our manager works as hard as we do and deals with the same crap we do. It's not a store issues, it's these guys who have to justify having a job, they make new policy for themselves, so they can have a job. It's upper management who goes along with it.

I plan to change things from the top.

This is why I walked away after working for Kroger for almost 5 years stocking nights. The more complicated the plumbing, the easier it is to clog up. You'd think they were building a rocket ship. All just to put Fruitty Pebbles on the shelf as fast as you can.

I've worked over 25 years in the grocery business in stock. From Sam's Wholesale Club to A&P,Sunflower,Alberson's and Winn Dixie.  Kroger was the worst I had ever worked for. But now I don't work for them, I quit and walked away, sometimes you just have to turn your back and get away from it or you'll get stuck in their rut, and once there, you'll never get out.

And I'm happier now than I've ever been the last 5 years. It was like a weight off my shoulders.

I agree.  Union says no piece rate allowed.  Problem is when a cashier doesn't meet the elms score we don't know who doesn't meet there elms score as they all have numbers.

Team stocking guide prints out your name the ailse you worked and how many cases you can put up per hour.  It don't give you enough time too condition either.

As for scanning backstock?  Another waste of time with paper.  CAO don't work I hate it when it predects we need a case of something and we don't.  Thats why I cancel it off the order.  If I let everything come in that CAO orders I would have alot more backstock.

It is McKroger.
