Is this right???

OKay I fractured my wrist. They refuse to let me work unless I get a full release from a doctor which could be MONTHS. I have a note saying I can do light work. The manager just kept repeating "There is no such thing as light work a Kroger". I thougt he was jokng at first, but no. He was dead serious. On my way home I then remembered how one lady was at work with a cast on HER wrist and she was WORKING. However she didnt have to switch departments. I mentioned in an earlier post that they let me hang up sale signs for a day and half before telling me I couldnt work. I worked in nutrition before which requires heavy lifting so obviously I cant do that. I can push a cart with one hand. I can bag with one hand. I can check dates and rotate in produce with one hand (which I had been doing on days they were short of people). I WANT TO WORK and this sounds like BULL.

The lady that you remember... did her injury happen at work or at home? The difference being that if the injury happened at work, then they have to offer you light duty, otherwise, it's at the manager's discretion. The best thing to do is talk to your union steward about the situation, and to let them know what type of work you can do.

yeah, it's ussually managers descretion. if it's work related, they almost always will find you work, because other wise, they gotta pay you workers comp. if it diddn't happen there, they don't have to pay, and it's up to the manager

If you did it at work, then you have the right to work at a light duty status. If you did it on your own time, then kroger has no resposibility to make sure you have a job that you can do at your limitations. They however can't fire or take your job based on an injury.

thing is they didnt even attempt to help. i was hanging sale tags for a day and a half before they bothered to tell me they couldnt allow me to work. so how am i suddeny not able to do this? i wouldnt piss me off if theyd at least bother. you think theyd be happy that i'm willing to help out with other duties around the store. i've never heard of such a thing. luckily my old job was short of a person and they allowed me to work for one night for some extra cash. i made pizza, cut and packaged food, and answered phones. obviously i'm not useless. i just cant lift boxes.

yeah, i seen a lot of this. some people get helped out, others get the shaft. it all depends on the management, and who they like

Pardon me, RightSensible, if I missed a detail....but I'm still wondering if your injury happened at home or at work.

The others are right, you know: it seriously depends on that.

i very well doubt the last kroger i worked for would not have at least tried. you never know though.

currently looking for a job. i cant afford to not be working for 2 months (or maybe even longer depending on what the doctor says). i have rent and bills to pay like anyone else. this is so frustrating.
