WOW.

On a lark, I just visied the Almighty Kroger Web Site---re job opportunities. Specifically management. They have exactly 31 salaried positions available, ranging from Assistant to Store Manager......ALL in Ohio. Every one! HMMMMM.....

So next I checked the hourly column, where you post your zip code. No individual open job/s descriptions, no p.t./f.t. status covered, no nothing...Just an open application process.

THAT'S BALLSY!

The store I shop at has a sign on the entrance that someone ran off the printer in the back: MEAT DEPT. HELP NEEDED, SEE WWW.KROGER.COM~~~

I dunno,,,,just some thoughts/observations~~~

Hourly positions are more common. This company has over 338,000 serving 2500 stores in 31 states. They can not post every damn hourly position on the kroger.com website. can you imagine! that would be a logistic nightmare. idiot potential employee applicants would be calling the stores continuously asking about positions.

last time i checked, kroger is based in cincinnati ohio. a lot of managerial positions are needed here. i however have seen tons of postings in other areas like nevada, colorado to name a few.

Kroger.com can post anything they want, re hourly jobs. On their web site they can specify which stores they need what help in for any given department--STILL on the same site, and, likely, for free.

As for salaried...Thirty one states? And ONLY Ohio? How is any outsider to view this?

I think nocturnia is dead on here. Key retailing has killed customer service, attitudes towards employers and other employees.
I feel like I'm on the damn titanic sans ANY life boats!

Oboro, it comes down to what we want against what we need.

I really feel the same Oboro. I can't see a way to fix the great huge pile of steaming crap that used to be a great store.

Customer service has gone. I realize that nothing is fair in life, but management has made a point to stare in your face and lie.

Every day that I am in that store is another fresh set of hell. I'm looking for something comparable, but not hearing anything back. We have a pretty rough job market in this area. Thomasville furniture factory just closed a few months ago, so that left 400 people looking for work.

One day, I'll break free of the hell that is Kroger.

I got ya man...I'm trying my best to stay positive that Kroger will see that they have yet again invested in another crap idea and move on. I'm all for change but not at the expense of loyal, hard working customers and certainly not at the expense of co-workers going bonkers over a system that was doomed from the begining.

Who? Me? Well, for starters I would create a feasible, comprehensive web site that is NOT filled with Kroger spam, banners and bull shiit ads; I would specify which jobs are available where, and I would include descriptions of the work required.

I think the largest part of the problem with kroger is and will always be the supervision. Management are not held responsible for how their employees feel. We have had those associate trackers for how many years now? My store in general had the lowest scores in our district since the beginning. We "the cultural council" had to come up with ideas for ways to improve moral. Which were, and I'm not joking, we now have all council meetings with the store manager. We had a day of listening with the new district manager. Her response was that the store is doing fine, and we are on the right path. Yet our scores are still just as low.

The Store Manager just sits back and lets the dept heads and a few core employees run the store. Recently 2 people were removed from produce simply because the Produce head wanted to give the hours to a newer employee and couldn't because of seniority. So he simply moved people out of the department and told them they worked up front now. If you don't do what they say they make your life miserable and write you up over anything and everything until they move you or get you fired.

This store uses mental and almost physical harrassment to maintain the power of the "core group" and the dept heads. If you dare to speak up or contradict what they say, your blacklisted, watched, written up and removed.

As we speak they are sending someone else from deli to the front end. What does the store manager do about this? He just hired 5 new people to take the place of the people they moved to the front end. Oh and now he's taking 3 weeks off to "rest" because of a physical illness/problem. As long as rules and regulations are not followed and applied fairly, this store and stores just like it will always be in a state of flux. There is no way to create a culture of inclusion when your harrassed and always on the edge of being fired every day. For most employees the threat of being moved or REmoved has created a blatant, I really don't give a crap.. I have 2 months, 6 months tops. Might as well just do whatever until they find enough reason to fire me.

So you end up with around oh. 8 core people creating and applying the rules randomly based on who they like and who they don't like for whatever reason. You have a co manager who not only supports their choices but advices them on how to remove people. You have a manager who could give a crap less. Now we have a district Human Resources Manager who is best friends with 3 of the core people creating havoc in our store.  SOO good luck going to HR for any help.

Yes.. I'm one of the people who are tired of being threatened with removal. So no I have nothing left to lose, but a job that I hate that I'm already in the slow process of losing (thank you union for making it harder for them to fire me for trivial matters.. ie having a hole on the floor, missing a sales tag and having to give an item away free (yes I as wrote up for that) Another great tactic the produce manager uses is to sit down in one day and "create" about 20 writeups to go into a persons folder. None of which are signed. But the shop steward is one of the core, so she is more than willing to say they were witness to these writeups.

Long drawn out post.. feel free to TL:DR

**edited typos, and removed a name, it's not my place to drop names.  That was wrong of me. It's not like it's hard to figure out the store or the HR district manager.

And yes, I do work for Wal-Mart-----but the parallels between Wally and Kroger are startling~

fatboy - i would love to call up your store and give the managers there some ****.  problem is...

there is 6 stores in lynchburg and one store in Appomatox.  i cant call them all  LOL

BTY  has anybody ever gone on the GREATPEOPLE.ME website?  Another wonderful creation of Kroger.

call the kroger helpline (1-800-689-4609)  and tell them all the **** going on at your store.  call them up every damn day till something happens.  it would be mildly amusing to see the results if any.  if you feel your being pushed out the door then why not huh.

i dont know how people can be all the sudden moved out of one dept to the front end w/o any issues.  i guess those people do not know how to fight.

It's been going on for so long, that people just don't want to deal with the hassles of fighting daily for a ****ty job. Also I did fight, am still fighting. But it's an up hill battle. Sadly the only thing that bothers me is that people see I'm losing and don't want to stand up for themselves because they realize there is no way to win.

But the phone number is a good idea.

Edward - just because right now things dont seem to be going your way does not mean that the fight is over.  Even if ultimately you leave Kroger, remember that those people are just sorry existence of humans and that you are better off w/o being around them.  Some people do not know how to stand up for themselves or rather they like to watch from the stands saying "man i hope that dude opens up the can of whoop-ass on these clowns today"  but they will be the first to say later on "well he was a fool for tryin'. now look where he's at."

A few post ago, i asked what you would do if you were Caesar of KrogerLand.  I understand that there are a lot of rogue reprobates out there who don't play by the rules.  Still I believe that this company was built on a solid surface of good moral conduct & correct guidelines.  Somehow at some point in time and with some people, things have gotten off line.  Well damn it!  Get out the silver bullets and fight back

It's funny how they shoot you down
When your hands are held up high
And you open up your heart and soul
But that's not enough for most.
I remember this much
There is nothing
You shouldn't speak of
If you got something to say
And there is no one
To be scared of
Just get them out of the way

I am very disappointed by this posting system. There are so many Kroger stores within a 75 mile radius of me and damn if I can find any openings in the stores to improve my hours because there are not any postings. In the past I have worked for another supermarket and postings were in the break room weekly so that we could advance.....HELLO Human Resouce Reps!!
