Nobody wants to work night crew anymore due to our new night shift leader (he has only been a kroger employee for a few months and kind of stepped into the job) who is a real jerk-off and treats us with ZERO respect. On top of that we have a manager who creates severely poor orders (lots of backstock and over ordering) which gets our night lead even more aggrivated and then he takes it out on us even worse.
We were short handed by one decent person, until our night lead pissed one of our co-workers off so bad that he requested a transfer (which he had to file grievence to get) back to the front end. So now we are two people short, coming thanksgiving, the first of the month (we only have one uscan attendant on the first who is about 90 years old), and rediculous orders. 650 - 700 peice KP trucks are regular, and expected to be broken down, and thrown by three people, as are our 1500 peice grocery orders.
The point I am working too is that since we are short handed, we have all been "givin" 48 hours a week except for our nightshift lead who remains at 40. So we work 6 days of straight time (no ot) working rediculous orders grinding ourselves to death for no extra perks, not even a thank you or good job. Management seems to refuse to hire anybody (hiring freeze?) but I have really had enough. I have been thinking about transfering to another district since I am moving anyway, but is there anything i can do to make this go through faster? It really doesn't seem fair to any of us. Especially considering the fact that we are only aloud to work our 6 days of 8 hours with no overtime and one day off but our lead can work 5 days a week, 10+ hours and get his time and a half usually throwing water or something rediculous.
Just do what you can, #330. If I were your manager, that is all I'd expect----------as long as you're showing up time, putting forth obvious effort, not making trouble for or enemies of anybody.
unless you are working at the Beijing China kroger store, any hours over 40 is overtime!
did you sign an overtime release form? What state is this store in? Are you either slave, prisoner or child laborers? Do not bust your ass b/c they can not seem to get their act togather. Just go in and do your job at a nice normal pace and screw them. Tell them you can and will only work up to 40 hours. Speak to the union about abything over 4o being overtime.

I am no longer part of the oppressed, evil workforce of Kroger! Can you say "Hallelujah"
I did not sign any kind of overtime release, and the store is in Virginia. I guess a call to the union is in order, they take 10 dollars a week out of my check, might as well put them to work lol. Thanks
same at my store. it makes it worse that the whole mood there at night is depressing. no one really talks to each other at all. we have no room in our freezer for the actual frozen isles. its all deli and meat. it takes alot of time just to get to our stuff because its always in the back of the freezers on truck nights
Federal law for non-salaried employees is that more than 40 hours a week is overtime. It used to be that all work over 8 hours a day was considered overtime, but the Bush admin. pursued labor law changes that made OT only 40 hours a week, unless your contract states otherwise. Contracts can't go outside of federal law and take away rights. So if you were working 40 hours in 4 10 hour days, you'd get no overtime, or hell if you somehow worked a 15 hour day and then worked only 25 or less hours the rest of the week, no overtime. But once its a tick over 40....thats OT any way you cook the books.
Luckily our contract in the Portland area still includes both as overtime, so all work above 8 hours per day AND all work over 40 hours is considered overtime, which excludes the employer from having you work extra one day, and then telling you to go home early some other time in the week to eliminate that overtime.
Also your freezer sounds awful! Someone needs to ride the ass of those dept. managers who are filling the freezer. Im very glad my current store has a separate MEA/SFC freezer, and then another freezer for everything else. In Seafood we have to get back there to get product for customers! I've worked in stores where its the opposite, one freezer just filled with Deli and Grocery frozen items, and someone always just plops a pallet right down in front of my shelves, cuz who cares if the customer might want to buy 10 lobster tails....
did u sign a six day waver? if so.. yea your screwed,, lol,,, management tried to do that to me, like really, come on i'm to smart for that... but over 40 a week over time, over 8 a day over time, no rest period overtime...
wow for a minute i thought i was reading my own post lol! same problem here 439 im backup, my gro mngr is a dick and snake in the grass the guys hate him but all like me. he rolls in whatever time he feels like (12:40 when scheduled at 10:00) refuses to stock a shelf or help anyone or even send them help. Get real everyone cant be 100% every night. Here at 439 we are first of the month store, yeah EBT haha. But our truck range from 800-1100 kmp and 2500-3000 grocery, backstock is undercontrol, but we have 6 f.t. stockers and 2 p.t. most aint worth a ****. end of the month is the only break. new store remodel plus wave 5 plus bad upload from inventory = pure stress and chaos
