Local 400 contract!

OUr contract is up in a week.  Anyone hear anything about it?  The only thing I've heard is that they are still talking!

if Kroger doesn't budge on the insurance issue.... we're going to strike. plain and simple.

Insurance issue? How many years has it been since they've allowed a pay raise...We've got 10+ year overnight stockers here who make $3 more an hour than our overnight assistants. The pay has gone down in 20 years...

in my opinion...

any one who works 10 + years should gadually get a higer pay rate than say a newbie who quickly decides to be an assitant night manager

I'd agree if our old-timers actually did more than they do. But when a plucky, arrogant 3-year associate is stocking 150 cases per hour and conditioning more neatly than the rest of the night crew, whereas so-called "journeyman" stockers are getting paid $15-$16 per hour for less able performance because they have to, uh, spend 2 hours editing the order on their two aisles, I'm gonna be a bit cynical.

In my opinion, someone who undertakes greater responsibilities than the general entry level worker should be paid more, regardless of how long said 10+ year employee has been there. The assistant is still the one saddled with 90% of the responsibilities of the grocery manager, and yet he's still making less money than an old-timer who was grandfathered into a better contract? Makes no sense to me.

Then again, I'm weird in that I want to be paid for every case stocked, not the number of hours I've worked, so different-minded people will have to take that into consideration.

disbelief the union will sadly sell us out,we will work under an extension and then in the end kroger will get what they want.
