Dumb Question About U-Scan
Permalink

When we print out the till report at the the beggining of the shift and write the cash total in the log, what does that number even mean? Is it the amount of money in all the machines and the attendent's till or what?

And there's a section where we have to write the difference or something. I just forgot what I'm supposed to write/how to calculate it. Help?

I just started recently. Pretty boring.

If it is a super large number, I would assume it is the amount of money in all the machines. Otherwise, it is the amount of money that is in the attendant's till. To calculate the difference, a till audit is done, where someone manually counts the money in the till (dollars and coins). They write down the difference, and calculate the overage or shortage.

your starting time is the last report's ending time. remember this!
left side - add up all the money. 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, coin rolls(quarter-$10 dime-$5 nickel-$2 pennies-$0.50), loose change, this will give you the cash total that is currently in the drawer.
right side - put your cash total at the top. add your stamps you currently have in the drawer underneath($8.80 per book). The next line is the starting till amount, which is the cash total of the last report's ENDING amount. below that is your starting stamp amount, which is the last report's ENDING stamp amount. next is pickups (i believe) which for my store is always 0, and under that is loans, for if they had to give your till any money throughout your shift.
Till report spot is the CASH amount thats at the bottom of the till report you print out. turn key, press manager, press reports. press till reports, press other. put starting time as the last reports ending time, and obviously the ending time is the current time. when it prints out, it tells you how much money you put in/took out of your drawer for each lane, including checks. at the very bottom there is a cash total. put this in the till report spot.
add down the right side. if stamps are the same then they cancel each other out, dont bother to add & subtract them.
if the till report says ( ) around the number, then ADD it. if it is not in ( ) then SUBTRACT it.
sometimes it helps when adding the right side to do all the addition first, then the subtraction. each line should have a + or - to tell you what to do.
the final line is over/under. if you sell stamps it will be under, but just write a note "1 book of stamps sold" or something.
hope this helps!

Very nice explanation! So I have to add/subtract the Cash Total(till report) to/from the cash total(counted from the drawer)?

And @ anon, yes, we do have to if we're at U-Scan. At least at my store.
