I've tried 3 times to use my vacation time for time needed off. The last time I gave 2 months notice and would have had my vacation for next week, since I'm part time it's 10 hours a week, so i was going to use 2 of my 3 weeks and once again have been told that my request is denied, this time because they said they don't have anyone to cover me. The union refuses to do anything about it, what should I do?
Next time tell them you're going out of town and already have purchased everything. Tell whomever does your schedule if they deny you again that they're gonna give you all the money you spent getting ready your money back or you're going. Happened to me one time, and I had to put my foot down. Of course, I think I said something about harrasment in there as well, because I was the only one she was doing it to. So, if you're the only one it is happening to, tell her you are gonna file a harrasment claim next time. Your vacations are in your contract, you earned them, so you can take them, end of story.
This happened at our store.. If ANYONE is given the day off on one of the days you wanted to use for vacation, then there is no reason why you couldnt have had that time instead. The union forced them to give her the time off.
When you say your rep wont do anything.. What exactly happened? Did you call? Leave a message? Speak to the rep in person? Did they say WHY they cant do anything? It seems like you are leaving out some important details.
