I hate "Old folks day." We get plenty of senior citizens on a regular day as it is; there's condos right across the street. But Senior Day it's 10 times worst. I see people on that day that I don't see any other time. Trying to get through the aisles is almost impossible.
I like it when we'll get some elderly person who, at a glance, is OBVIOUSLY completely confused. About everything. And they'll insist we have an item that they "...just bought here last week!!"-----and we've never in the company's history carried it.
Had an old guy at the cigarette lane ready to attack the cashier there, wanting a pack of 'Smorkles'. Seriously, that's what he called them. Started screaming about how he'd been buying those things, at our store, for years~~
Us in southwest division have bulit in to the system so when they buy any kroger brand it will automaticlly take the ten percent discount off when we hit total and plus we dont limit it to one day the old folks can get it all year round all 364 day we are open
We have Senior Day the first Wednesday of every month. The deli also fixes breakfast for them. It is a pain. "Did I get my senior discount?" Can't tell ya how many times we hear that.

That's terrible. Does the deli get reimbursed for all that food and all the time needed to prepare it? If you're only given so many hours and part of those hours are used in preparing something you're not going to make any money off of I would think that would screw up deli's budget. Plus there's the cost of the food itself. I would never give away anything for free like that because once you start it people start to abuse it. I had one guy get mad because the coffee machine wasn't working at 5 o'clock in the morning and he couldn't get his free coffee.

Gee, I hope you're not gonna end up being one of those old people one day, bitchin' 'cause you've busted your hump all your working life, paying taxes into programs that benefit pretty much only the young, and now, at the end of your journey, you'd like an occasional free breakfast or a cup of coffee, if for no other reason than to be shown some appreciation, and you're now likely on a small, fixed income.
conversation between me and an older, but not elderly, customer
her: so, do you know if you have a senior day? me: well, i'm not quite sure what you mean. her: you know, a day where senior citizens get a discount for shopping here? me: nope we don't have one. i think maybe at other kroger locations but not this one her: are you sure? me: well, i've been a cashier here for 2 years and we've never had one her: do you think there is someone else that would know or not? me: i just said we don't have senior days. we don't have them her: oh ok, well i'll just go talk to customer service and ask them if they know me: you go ahead and do that but they're going to say no her: well you never know, you might have one! me: ....you have a nice day.
