just had to leave work early and got guilt tripped about it. It seems that management never wants to believe anyone when they're sick. This is my first time ever leaving early and i haven't called out yet. I guess from now on everytime i puke or crap myself to death i will escort them to the bathroom and show them why i need to leave.

Speaking from inside experience in these matters, I can tell you: the reason most managers get ****y about sick calls is because they know they're gonna have to pull the extra weight themselves---or be held accountable for it not getting done.
All my grit is in the bathrooms at kroger right now. If i am puking my guts up i am not working and its not sanitary. We work in a food service industry.........If i was a customer i wouldn't feel to good about buying something there if i knew employees were working in between throw up trips to the bathroom.
today i went to work sick. i work behind the seafood counter and the disgusted looks from customers as i handled raw meat and seafood while coughing my head off.
i should have stayed home but i didn't want to hear bull**** from manager. so i think it is better that i get customers and employees sick instead of keep the sickness at home?
It would be funny if a news crew showed up with a camera doing a story on employers in the food industry who discourage workers who are ill from staying home.

That or they're pissed because they have to come to work when they are sick. IT was the unwritten rule in Central that management had better be dying, dead, or in a hospital to call in sick.
At least this kid went to work and got sick there and left. I never questioned that when I was a manager, for the most part.
At least where I work now, I get sick days. Hell, my boss was out sick yesterday and probably was today, and it was no sweat to anyone. Rather refreshing.

Man, you'd like my store then! We've got assistants who call off over a sniffle or sore throat---NO EXAGGERATION. I could just as easily abuse that latitude if I didn't have a work ethic, and weren't blessed with good health.
Yet, our policy is to hold every hourly associate's absence----hell, every late call---to a point system that takes no time to result in a write-up. It is these kinds of double standards that are making me increasingly sick of my company.
