Can management really tell me that i need to cut my hair. I am a male and I wanted to grow my hair out to an average 80's power metal level or axl rose level.
Also can they prevent me from growing out my beard to a zach galifinakis level, not a zz top just a zach galifinakis.
my hair is down to my shoulders and i participated in no shave november so my beard is gnarley and they haven't said anything to me yet but i work 3rd shift

I know of a guy who worked in one of the Kroger delis who had hair just like you described. If you're working around food then you do have to either wear a hairnet or keep it pulled back or up and wear a cap. If you're not working around food then you don't have to.
I've been wondering this myself because one of my managers said I need to get a haircut and make sure all my hair is covered in my hairnet in the deli. But they don't say anything to the girls who keep most of their hair hanging out.
Hair length, style and color were all covered under that above described decision. I can't find a link to post, but I remember the case well: in 1985, a young man in Detroit, M.I., was fired from his job at an auto plant for wearing his hair in a spiked Mohawk style. He sued. The factory's defense was that his hair style caused an un safe work environment, for him and others. When the case ended up in the state's Supreme Court, it could not be proved that the defendant, nor his hair style, were in any way a company liability.
I don't know where, or eve if, 'un natural' hair color laws come into play. But if I chose that look and got challenged by it, I'd fight it.
Where I work we've had to make cashiers remove face piercings and cover the sites with queer looking little round band aids, which, to me, only draws that much more attention. Give it three more years, max. All this will be gone like smoke.
there is a strong prejudice in the retail world, about guys with long hair.
i caught hell for it, the entire 13 years i worked for kroger, to the point were management would insult me, saying i looked like a "criminal stalker' with my long hair, goatie, and big build.
i was told to shave, cut it, and "get fit"
but no, management can not make you cut anything, it is sexual discrimination to have different hair standards for men and women, so unless they gonna make all girls get "page boy' haircuts, all they can do is hate.
they just don't like anyone that has individuality.
what i don't get is they always claim it's for the customer, but really, customers could care less what your style is, long as your clean
management needs people to bully around every once and awhile. dont cut it and as a matter of fact cut off a small amt and put it in a zip lock bag ang go hand it to the manager. they love it when people stand up and fight back. especially when they cant do crap about it. have some fun with it
