after reading all concerns by kroger workers on here for about a year now, and really did not beleave all, WELL, it has happen to me, after working my @ss off for this company for almost three years now with respect for the company.going above and be-on. @lest @ store level kroger is a really bad, onsafe almost boarderline violating human rights place. yesterday mang. Called me up after clocking out for the day and ambushed me of my work performace, tried to get me in a private office, said theres no union rep, and kept on degradeing me with my work performace. Mine you, I been told months back @ how well and good I am with my work, and been told above avg. I for one can not sleep good last night worryed about my job and only get 25 hour a week and exspect me to do a 40 hour a week job in 25 hours, stay TUNE in, I will be back tomarrow with the whole truth about my ordeal with kroger, its bad, thanks to kroger, now I see the truth of all of you hard workers here, im so sorry this is happing to us, they are not humans no more
you know, i've been coming to this site for a good year now. somewhere along the way i sorta realized that it isnt really the horribel managers that we need to concern ourselves with. they come and go. they ebb and flow. occasionally, if you are with kroger long enough, you will have a run in with a manager. it's like they have a calendar with all our names on it and the date they need to screw with us. so we pretty much just need to understand how to deal with these situations properly when they arise.
alot of kroger employees are dumb asses. i know that sounds cold but come on lets face the fact and call it like it is. there is a reason why our school system has special education classes. alot of these dropouts flow into retail jobs - kroger is a huge one. my point is that these people do not know how to handle the employer/employee confrontations properly. it's a shame cause some of these dumb asses are just really nice people with families trying to eek out a living.
so heres the milion dollar question. how do you handle a call up to the doghouse properly? do you get belligerant and go on a rant? honestly, i think for you, you sould head back up to the manager office and sit down to work out an agenda on how to get what he wants done the way he wants it done. sure your gonna think that it is a bunch of bullcrap but appease the bastard as if you really care and are willing to give it the 'ol collegiate try'. you are in essence getting the monkey off your back. act shocked that you are viewed as being garbage and didnt perceive yourself like that. say silly things like "i do not want to be viewed as a poor performer" or "that is not the way i try to run myself either at work or in my personal life". just have some fun and sucker the fool into thinking you care about his concern.
then go back down there and work. do basically the same things you have always done. maybe add a couple twists to it to throw the scent off the trail. make sure you talk to the union rep IN CONFIDENCE. anything you say to him/her is private. ask them if it is up front. tell them that for now all is ok buuuuut i might be needing you later on.
you get it? you got a choice. go ballistic or play is cool. its christmas time. not a good time to be canned. plus in another month we get new vacation time. good luck.....
<ps-i'm not calling you a dumb ass. i don't know you. you might be one. i just don't know that LOL >

I am no longer part of the oppressed, evil workforce of Kroger! Can you say "Hallelujah"
Sad but true. I have a Dept head that daily blows up on one of us and it is our day to be picked on.Some times she sais she is sorry a few hrs latter often not though. This women is in her 50s I wish she would grow up by now she should of learned to keep her mouth shut.
one of the main reasons i lasted 13 years at kroger, was learning to pick my battles.
kroger hires, and promotes idiots, to be managers. they do so because idiots are easier to control.
some are worse then others, all you can do, is ride them out, and hope for better.
the problem with that way of handeling it that way, is the problem i had,
sooner or later, your going to get a maneger with 'your number'
they will do what it takes to get rid of you. you can try to ride them out too, but its a endurance game, and if you get unlucky enough where they stay a while, you loose, like i did.
It happens, thats why you don't see people with kroger real long anymore.
most ******* managers can be appeased by a yes sir !thank you sir ! just to make them feel big, then just let it go, and go about your buisness as ussual.
it sucks thou, it really does and i truly feel for you. nobody should have to put up with the humiliation kroger dishes out.
but untill jobs start becoming availble again, your choinces are limited.
don't let them totally walk all over you, but remember, they WON'T see reason, so it's pointless to try

After working for nearly a year at a Marketplace, it seems the department big shots finally got tired of my ability to defend my rights and speak out about the inconsideration that happens day in and day out.
I have worked my hands to bones and bruises for them. But a few "time sensitive" requests that unfortunately had to wait for more important priorites (I.E helping customers mainly) are seen as insubordinate acts against the company.
The department head and the lead (her lap dog basically) have been working towards this for awhile now. Telling me to locate product and the next day they are changed. I'm not an imbecile, and know you can check the last update date in the RF. Days when I'm not scheduled seem to be their favourite.
After being called into the lion's den today, it finally hit me that I'm above and beyond being able to save myself. To have a store manager, one whom I have helped countless times and have stood up for in the past when push came to shove, tell me that my performance is sluggish, and unproductive. Looking his nose down at me as he fed me these lies.
I stared back into his very being as I sat across from him and let my mind tell him what I felt. He quickly looked down and could no longer keep eye contact with me, but could easily tell me that I'll be getting hours cut and any other issues would result in write-ups.
As I have so justly before attempted to stand up to prejudice and oppression towards me, it was futile and caused the store manager to get angry. Telling me that if I wanted to get "technical" he could get "technical" too.
It sickens and disheartens me deeply that he can listen to one side of the story but not the other. Speaking up for myself is filtered as lies, because I am a lowly associate. I don't take home 500-600$ a week like those who oppose me. Therefore my word is as good as garbage to them.
For a man who once honoured himself as my "friend" he may have well just thrown me out of his precious store right there. But no.
It is not enough for them to simply tarnish my work athetic or reliability, they have to cut me down to almost nothing. Take my pride from me too. To have to show my face there still, drives me close to my limits.
But I need to swallow it all. Look for something better. Take the scraps they are giving me now for the time I can.
I'm amazed that people like this can be called human beings.
My grandmother once told me a fable about evil creatures that take everything from you. They can appear as anything they please. Just so they take everything you have. Relentless, ruthless, and unstoppable. I think I've finally met these creatures. It is an experience I will never forget.
