Gotta love customers who get caught in the act and then complain

I just foiund this forum and i figured it was a perfect time to post what happened to me on december 23rd.

I night checked for a co worker who had called out the other night, basically just watching over the U'scans overnight, and a lady came to me and told me the bill accepter wouldnt take her 50. so as i went to type in 50.00 cash i realized how fake the 50 looked, the bill looked blurry, and since we have had a large string of fake 10's going around i knew this was a fake just like it so i marked it with the currency pen and it came up dark dark brown meaing it was fake, so i told the lady that it was suspect to being a fake and she told me she got it from the bank and that it had to be real, and i marked it for her again and told her dark brown meant it was fake. so she just took it back and payed with a 100 instead, which i assume was real since the billacceptor took it. All while this is going on a random customer had decided to call the cops, so 4 cops come in and are questioning me on where the women went, then she CAME BACK a hour later telling me she didnt know how her total was so high, she claimed she only bought 3 mangos but she rang up 40.....now how in the hell do you mean to type 3 and type in 40? so i refused to refund her, her money until customer service opened the next day, since i was slammed still from it being the night of christmas eve.

fast forward until the next day, i get a call from a co-worker telling me the lady had came back the next day(christmas eve) and was telling the manager that i wouldnt take her bill, and that she had gotten the 50 from US and that i wouldnt refund her for HER MISTAKE which i could not even verify that she made a mistake since she left the store with her groceries, then CAME BACK over a hour later with her groceries in her shopping cart telling me her total was wrong.

Just asking if anyone thinks this is ground for being written up, since i know i did what anyone else would of done, even though i know i shouldof took the 50 and called the police, i was just too busy to leave the u-scan for any amount of time before someone would need help, blowing my cover of trying to hide to calll police.

thanks :)

naw - u'll be fine.  they have plenty of cameras pointed at the cash register areas that they can review to see just what the customer did.  plus you were protecting the company.

You screwed up. In Kroger, it's not 3 strikes and you are out. It's one strike.

so true. The customer is always right no matter what. No more warnings?? You get one strike if they don't like you.

First, it is not your legal responsibility, nor your responsibility as a cashier, to confiscate the counterfeit money. You did the right thing by not accepting the money as payment and informing the customer that it was indeed a counterfeit bill.

Second, it was not your responsibility to refund the customer for a mistake that she made and didn't catch until she got home. Any refunds must go through the customer service desk, no matter who makes the mistake. Cashiers are not allowed to do refunds anyway. You would have gotten in trouble, otherwise.

You did the right thing in both cases. It's exactly what I would have done.

Actually, the Secret Service should have gotten involved in this. Counterfeit currency is under their pay grade.
