Our store is getting ready for a major remodel.  I'm not looking forward to it.  I've been through several remodels before but this time they're tearing down outside walls and building on to the store.  The store is already too big.  We have an older clientele and customers are always complaining about having to walk to death in the store.

They're also tearing down several smaller shops adjacent to the store to make more room for parking.  The tenants have to be out sometime in March.  Unless they've relocated them, I think they're getting a raw deal.  Kroger always talks about how Walmart is too big and putting the mom and pop stores out of business and here they are doing the same thing.

Well, it's all a vicious cycle now: one corporation battling another for market share, and rather than focus on customer satisfaction and intelligent, cost-effective store planning, they're all going for more square footage and market saturation. It's like the Walgreens vs. CVN battles: those damn places are e v e r y where now!

Does it seem that Kroger h.o. is now ---literally--- making up new policy every few weeks, confusing and irritating the sht out of everyone? That's how it is on virtually all retail now.

We're going from about 80,000 sq. feet total area to over 120,000 sq. feet.  The salesfloor will be around 110,000 sq. feet.  I'm not sure what it is now.  The only reason Kroger does these remodels is for the tax write off.  The store certainly doesn't need to be expanded.  The bakery and deli departments are going to be so big they're going to have to have two separate department heads.

Does anyone know how that works?  Does the current deli/bakery manager get to choose whether they want to be deli manager or bakery manager or do they automatically stay in deli and someone else is then chosen as bakery manager?

We opened a few months ago with the same concept a Marketplace and Dept Heads had to apply for the job. Afew stayed and many were put in other stores so they could keep their pay. For a year now their has been 2 big remodles and another soon so we never know who is going to be in what store latly Dept heads are like a bad penny.
