Does anyone know if you still owe union dues for weeks you don't get any hours?
Also if there's hour cuts going on in the whole store, how liklely would it be to be able to get hours from another department? I was talking to a friend of mine who used to work for Kroger and she told me me to ask HR for hours in another department, but i really doubt they'd give me any anyway as I have no seniority.
most likely, yes. If you're in the union it's paid weekly. They will not be able to take a negative amount out but they can double charge you the next week. It's what they do with vacation pay.

Vacation pay is different; you're still being paid. If you're not getting paid, you don't pay union dues. When people go on sick leave or maternity leave they don't pay union dues.

I know from experience in my local that if you're out for a week or weeks they will deduct your union dues in a lump sum. example: if you're out for 12 weeks on disability they will deduct 10 / week in union dues when you start earning your checks again. 12 x 10 = $120 is a portion of whats going to your union dues. If payroll forget to put your vacation pay in then they 'double dip' and charge you $20 in union dues.
