I keep seeing this posted around the stores. What exactly is Safety 360 and how is it different from our current program? It sounds like if you have an accident then it comes back around and its on you.

Once or twice a day the manager will call for a "Safety Blitz."  When they do, every employee who isn't busy with a customer is suppose to look all around their area for safety hazards.  This didn't happen during a blitz but just the other day I saw a young guy in the deli cleaning the slicer without safety gloves and with the blade running.

Dept. heads have to fill out an incident report if an accident occurs in their dept. Then they have to go and retrain everyone in the dept. about whatever caused the accident and have them all sign a paper and send it all back to corporate. As with everything else Kroger comes up with, it's a waste of time.

We don't sign any papers ever.

I can walk into most any market , in the Dallas area, and find safety violations almost any time of day.

One think is that there should be floor mats by each saw to prevent slips or falls. Few store still even have them. Take a look at almost any spot that anything is plugged into and you will not see many , if any, water cove outlets, so that when they are unplugged, the cover comes down to prevent you from spraying water into them. And then there has been many times that when you are cutting , on a table , they are not level ( broken levels on the legs) and that can cause many issues with things falling off the top if you have a try attachment to your table.

There are many little things that one can find without even looking. But the floor mats are my biggest thing. But then to get them and have them in the market is around a $100 each and they do not want to expense that out.

My main question about safety concerns the STAR safety team.  Besides being famous for being some of the more unproductive employees at the store, they also spend over 2 hours every tuesday having a "safety meeting".

What could they possibly doing for 2 hours? When you consider that there are 8 members on the team, you have to wonder if ELMS accounts for 2 entire shifts to be spent on these meetings.

Anyone wish to rebut my rants?

Never been on the star committee. Management tried several times to place me or some one else out of the Market, on it but we all refused. Never seen it accomplish anything other than bitching at me for not wearing a cutting glove. Gut more things fixed that are a safety issue , by going thru my MR rather than any committee.

the safety 360 is about getting every dept envolved in keeping the store safe in every way possible..it is also a program that lets us log everything dealing with saftety in an easier format. its not about hazards coming back around again and again but rather fixing problems and staying safe...i am an employee at kroger and have been a member of our star safety team for 4 years and personally went to the district safety 360 meeting...this idea for saftey is a great idea...it is still early in developement but we hope to have it up and running in full depth within the next year so if you dont see any changes then just give it some time....i hope this helped with your concerns and if you have questions you should consider asking your safety team leader!!! thats what they are there for!!!

to My Name is James: ELMS does not provide these hours for the meetings...the saftey team is actually accredited these 2 hours through the the STAR safety program...in these meeting members should be discussing weekly injuries, possible improvements, upcoming saftety events, ect. if you find the team not doing you should report this conduct to your saftey team district coordinator. hope this answers your question.

I don't like it.

It seems like each Safety 360 is another strand in a spiderweb so that they can basically fire you at any time for not following some nonsensical safety rule.

"Ah ha!  You looked right-left-right instead of left-right-left when you went into the parking lot to get carts.  According to this Safety 360 you signed, this is a gross violation of proper safety conduct and we get to fire you.  Have a nice day."

Regardless of liking the program or not it is something that Corporate requires. The program works. As far as signing anything, you do realize the refusal to sign could result action being taken to for insubordination. As long as the safety topic is discussed with you then you are required to sign it. Apparently your Safety Lead needs to make some changes. See what Corporate says about refusal to comply with Safety protocol. You would sign it or now be on the next schedule for sure.
