I'm not exactly sure, but i believe its based on years of experience. The more years you've been there the more you pay per month. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Again I can not say for sure but would be interested in knowing if they are taking it out of you or another person and if it is all the same time or just different times.
I do know that when you join the union , there is a one time membership fee. Our local take it out over three pay periods and that could be it . Just do not know. Our dues if set by your position status and time with the company as far as any part timers or those not topped out.
Any one new will have a dues deduction and an initial membership deduction. Just guessing that it could be that. But your membership fee should be waved if you are from , have been or active member in any other UFCW local.
ok so i was told the bigger amount one was just our weekly dues and the other one goes into a pool if and when we go on strike to help pay us
That could probably be true. I have know idea. I am in Texas and a right to work state. Not as much power in a union that in a closed shop state. But my own personal opinion is this. When you are in a right to work state, the union will work a little harder because they have to in order to retain their membership.
Major factories and teachers and cops require union dues: That makes sense to me. Paying .009 of a dollar more per item to a guy who picks his nose and scratches his balls does not.

open question for you sir and anyone else that wants to answer these.
#1 About unions , do you think they are needed or not
#2 Should all states be open right to work states or all closed shops there everyone is either in a union or no-one in it?
#3 Should all unions have the right to strike? private sector and government or public service unions?
#4 Do unions hold to much power over state and federal governments?
To Be fare about it , here are my answers
A Unions are needed and has there place in society but not really necessary in some very small type industries and retail establishments.
B I am a strong union person but I would rather see states all be right to work states. Mainly for the reason that I feel, you get better representation and accountability from them to the members.
C my belief is that all unions in the private sector should have the right to strike when needed. Public and government unions should not have the right to strike , mainly for public safety and services issues. Binding arbitration should be used when it comes to their contract talks and issues.
D Yes I still believe that Unions have way toomuch power in government but not any more than some lobby groups.
and btw when i joined not to long ago the one time membership fee (i think it was $75) was waived, and she said we are immediately in the union but it was free for the first two weeks and any time after that where they dont take a payment(til it kicks in) consider it a bonus. and it is $9 n some change a week which is totally worth making sure the people that come in behind me dont get my hours.which was the main reason why i joined.

One thing to remember about the fee, is simple. It is not something that has to be renewed every year. The other thing is, if you leave and go somewhere else that is a UFCW local, your membership goes with you and the membership is just transferred over. There are a few places ( guessing closed shops) where your fee is several hundred dollars.
