Why would it be embarassing to show up? It would be stupid not to show up. I only been out of work for a week. Plus in four years I never made a mistake at Kroger. I was just scammed. Plus I wasn't trained on how to handle procedures with Western Union.

I just started working customer service in November. At my store they do not train us. We learn as we go. I did take a AML and SAR training test before I started in Nov. Well Monday March 5. I received a phone call from someone who I thought was from western union. They said they spoken to my manager and at the time the FEM was busy doing coin trays at uscan. This person named people who she talked to at my store. Like a dummy I believed her and proceeded with the transaction. She said our system wiped out a few transactions and I need to run it back through or someone will get fired. Me trying to be helpful did that. After the first transaction I become suspicious and asked the person to call back I remembered a memo on W.U saying a agent will never call and ask to make transactions. I called W.U fraud hotline and the lady told me I was scamed and file a police report. I hung up and told management what I done. They had no choice but to suspend me because I will have a shortage of $953.95. Everyone keeps calling me and saying they are fighting for me. I was never told that I could not do transactions over the phone, plus I thought she was a real agent. I have my meeting Tuesday at 2. Do you think they will fire me?

And that's what you tell them. You may not win, but you should at least try~
well as long as they cannot prove that u were in on the scam you will get unemployment if they fire you. the reason u have been suspended is because the managers probably think you r in on the scam. once their investigation is over you will be warned or written up depending on ur union contract, and most likely removed from the front office.
and for future advice... when i worked up front in the office, i would always ask for management approval for anything above ten dollars (refunds without receipts, etc.)
in truth, i am taken aback by the fact that you would send a western union over phone. even if you werent trained at all, you shouldve known that if youre sending money you need to b paid first. you shouldve gave the call over to management or a more experienced office clerk. your decision to send the money over phone is suspicious. but if you are innocent then this should all work out. you wil likely never work in the front office again tho.
They know I was not apart of it. If I was, my manager said that I wouldve just quit and never told them what I did or even file a police report. Most of the time I do ask for manager approval. I told them that I was naive into letting someone convince me that they were a real agent. Also the person I was talking to told me that someone wiped out our transactions in our system and I need to run it back through.

don't let them black ball you into quitting. if you have the time put in to get unemployment, then by all means do not resign or take indefinite suspension. They would rather not fire you if they think you will get unemployment out of it, thus they will not fire you.
don't do the firing for them. if they want you gone, make them be the ones to terminate the contract between you and them. unemployment is worth it, and yes, even if you are fired you will still be able to get other jobs. trust me.

The stigma with firing is almost gone. People get fired or laid off all the time, and there is no shame in it. Don't quit. Fight for your job. I hope they get the lady that did this. Do they have her on caller ID?
Go to your meeting at 2 on Tuesday. Sign nothing that the managers try to get you to sign because most likely whatever your signing will have a clause somewhere on it acknowledging that you are intending to resign. The manager's at my store have tried this on several people throughout the three years I have been with the company. Do not fall for their trickey-they will say things like "You should resign because if we have to go to the stressfull effort of firing you it will look bad and you won't be able to get another job." They are bluffing-if they do fire you and if you are worried they will give you a bad reference, then don't put them on your resume. Or if you do want to put it on your resume, then be honest about why and how you were fired/left the company. Most applications have a space for these descriptions anyway. Honesty goes a long way with these kinds of people (hiring managers.)
Don't let the manager's steamroll you into submission, but don't be rude or dispresctful to them either. Grab a Union Handbook for your store, read it through and through, contact your Union District rep, and empower yourself with knowledge. Then, during the meeting, put that knowledge to use and call out the manager's when they try those gimmicks with you.
I remembered a memo on W.U saying a agent will never call and ask to make transactions.
I was never told that I could not do transactions over the phone, plus I thought she was a real agent.
I remembered after I done the transaction. That's why I did not proceed with the other ones. The person I spoke with knew my agent number when I logged in and first and last name. Plus at the time my manager and FEM were busy. The wanna be agent knew this too. So I was thinking I was helping out.

No we do not have caller I.D and it sucks. Honestly W.U agents call us to verify things a lot. So I thought i was doing the right thing.
im new to kroger but been in retail for 8 years, and yes, you most likely will be fired. Western union scams are the oldest trick in the book besides prepaid cards being bought with stolen credit cards. they might chalk it up as an honest mistake but i doubt it. i'd start looking for a job just in case
