If you are currently a full time employee <45yrs. old then you need to be creating your exit strategy asap! Unless you are ageless physically and think you can continue to adapt to micro-managed, robot like company mandated policies and procedures as a dept. head then your days are numbered. As the company converts to master plans like key retailing and part-time work force at store levels within the next 5 years those of you that are getting full time as a regular clerk are in their crosshairs and it's not a matter of if but when they load that bullet with your name on it.

Better to depart now when you are still of the age and physical health to seek out a new career where you have a future that will provide wages and benefits that will support you and your family until your retirement age which very likely will be at least 70 yrs. old( if you live  that long). Today's Retail is NOW for high school/college kids/housewives/early retirees- any one that only needs or wants part-time. There is life after Kroger- but it's not going to come seeking you! You need to stepup and make the necessary sacrifices to better yourself and your future! Get out of that no-future comfortable comfort zone before they blow you up!And NO DO NOT SEEK MGMT POSITION WITH KROGER- that is a no security, no satisfaction, non-rewarding, burn out job with incredibly high turnover

I think that is so true,Kroger no longer wants people that Want,Like or Need to work. They would rather have kids that work one or two pay checks and move on . They will have only one full timer  per dept. to baby sit these kids. sad sad sad

I am part time, but i am not someone who needs baby sitting. I need a job just like anyone else, but the front end part timers don't do sh*t at my store. I work 3rd shift and every night i come in they are all huddled in a group talking.

I know the feeling, bro. I worked front end tonight.... i wanted to smack them all. everytime i turn around they are either texting on their phone, talking to each other, or eating/drinking something with customers around.

it's really sad.

That's life at today's Kroger and no it isn't fair but for many decades the front end was undermanned and thus manipulated by your store mgmt. Some managers would Mother Hen the front end and rob hours from other depts. to keep it moving- others would schedule heavy while they were there(mostly during the day) then shortchange the evening to balance it out. Now that Elms is micro-manging the front end with QueVision the easy positions are up front..But like you said you're surrounded by slackers. If this type situation really irritates you then you need to seek all your hours in other depts. - but that is only a temporary fix. Find a job where  conscientous hard work is rewarded and  you have to use your brain to get the job done not a tv screen or a telzon gun.

Should I get out? I've been with Kroger for 28 years I'm 47 and work full-time, I am sick of it and would like to get into something a whole lot better paying. It isn't too late to better myself and learn a trade? About the pension how would I go about collecting it when I do reach retirement age? Would I need to fill out some forms before I quit to ensure that I will receive my pension. Thanks in advance.
