So last night whoever makes the schedule forgot to put someone in grocery so i had to work frozen in grocery backstock.....thats all well and good, but we get perishable trucks on sunday nights and i have never unloaded a truck or even used the power equipment for that matter. I told the grocery manager about it and he kinda shrugged it off. Could i get in trouble for using the power equipment even though i am technically not authorized to do so. I had no choice.

No, but I wouldn't let it happen again. If you or some one else got hurt as a result of your not being licensed on the power equipment, you'll be grabbing your ankles.

refuse and tell them that you don't want to hurt anyone or get hurt yourself. if they refuse tell them you're calling the labor and safety office as soon as you can. DO NOT EVEN TOUCH the power jack unless you're trained.

If you do it will be all on you and since kroger will never back you up why risk it?

But then you alsoface insubordination when told by anyone in management possition to do a task. If you are ovr 17 and requested to do so, then ask a second time and state you re not trained to do so. If they tell you to do so then you have to do it or face insubordination and terminatin. Best thing to do s do it and then grieve in .

Your manager can not force you to do anything unsafe. If you're not trained you don't do it. Period.

Im pretty shure no one at my store has been "trained" to use the straddlejack or the power jack but we all use it anyway. Management seems to not care about training anyone but really its not that hard. If you cant figure it out you probobly shouldnt be driving a car or working at a grocery store.

you can always take on he insibordination and refuse. But getting our job back is not easy if they terminate you. do the job and call the union and or osha and file the complaints will end it if not ave the manager, that ordered you to do it, terminated or bustd back.y

1) Management should care if you're certified or not. This is a problem and it should be addressed.

2) I'm not saying that it's hard to learn to operate or use the equipment. I'm saying that, if by some chance, you get hurt or hurt someone else while on the job and using them you will be held solely responsible for what happened. Kroger will say "well, he shouldn't have been using it, in the first place, because he wasn't properly trained and certified". You'll be stuck with medical bills, neglectful irresponsibility, and fired on top of it all.

You want that on your shoulders? By all means, be an idiot.

You throw around the word insubordination like it actually means something in this conversation. Let me explain something to you clearly and once-and-for-all. Your safety is more important than what your manager tells you to do.

If you do not feel safe doing something, no matter the circumstance, do not do it. There is a difference between someone telling you to go put something on the shelf that is outside your current job description or pushing a cart when you're in the deli and USING HEAVY MACHINERY.

one lucky manager- that is an overt OSHA violation- if u had been injured or worse yet injured customers or other employees then the company would have been fined big time! it's not brain surgery but any equipment that is powered by a motor of any kind requires training even if it only takes one minute. u did the right thing though- if u had refused then it coulda been like the one guy said.. grab ur ankles...
