So I've been accepted to work at my local Kroger (Which I've been trying to get into for about a year, now) & I'll be finishing my computer training by tomorrow night. My manager said I officially start working next week. I'll be working as a Utility Clerk for the Deli department from 7pm-11pm. I'm guaranteed 20-something hours p/week, on top of my current warehouse job.
Are there any Utility Clerks out there who can give me a good synopsis as to:
What their job is like?
What all they do (besides cleaning)?
From what I've heard, it's one of those jobs where you're virtually underneath EVERYONE & is considered everyone's royal bitch. But I have enough common sense to know that I'm responsible for my duties & I need to do whatever my boss & other managers tell me to do.
After working my very first job a year ago of being a Preparation Chef, I know better than to say yes or sure to whatever my co-workers asked me to do because they're too lazy to do it themselves. But I'll gladly help out after I've finished my duties & if time permits.
I'm really looking for the input of other Utility Clerks, but I definitely won't complain seeing everyone elses' say on this.
Thanks in advance
P.S: I'm 18, turning 19 in October.
Our store has A LOT of kids my age working there (mainly in front-end). They get a bad-rap for being the laziest MOFO's who don't know what they're doing.
I just wanna make sure I know what's to be expected from other U.Clerks so I can kinda mentally prepare myself for this job lol

I personally have never heard the term 'utility clerk' used in the Kroger deli. Basically - to close down the deli - people break down & clean the slicers; some one handles all the chicken frying crap; some one breaks down the soup, olive bar, hot food station, sandwich area, etc; you gotta wash all the dishes & spoons & trays <hope you have a dishwasher>. Plus deal with all the walk up customers at the same time. Then you wash down all the stainless, do the trash, mark down of pitch out crap, sweep and power wash the floor.
bingo, you're everyone's bitch. take out the trash for the front end, clean up spills, condition aisles, bag groceries fetch buggies clean bathrooms and also that trail all through the store where the old man had **** dribbling down his pant legs
