full time ratio

in reading my contract it states....

it is the intent of the parties that fifty percent (50%) of the hours inn the contract area will be offered as fourty (40) hour schedules to full time associates.  No associate will be reduced from full-time to part-time in order to meet the ratio.

that's ur current contract and of course the UPPER Class Upscale Cinci division. the 70% part/30% full is to be fully implemented by 2016. and like mentioned before ur division will be the last to see this and probably will be handled with kid gloves and enacted thru attrition not mandated and ram rodded like in the lesser divisions.

so once again to make this clear to all- IT'S COMING LIKE A RUNAWAY FREIGHT TRAIN or a Herd of Turtles.. depending on where u r. that's the fact jack!so if ur not a dept. head or otherwise key employee then ur store model has u being reduced to part-time within the next 4 years. if u have the ability to learn a trade, get a specialized degree, go work in the family business, etc. then u best dump the clutch and get it in gear asap!

i believe you mate.  i can't help that i happen to live in Cincinnati where Kroger is HQed btw.  I was born and raised here personally and somehow along my walk in life, three years ago I found myself working for Kroger.

yea i'm sure cincinnati division is the upper crust kroger area. out of curiosity - how long has kroger been in your particular area of the country?  was it a buy out or new growth.  j/w.

I hate to jump in on this conversation, but I wanted to add a little info from the division next door, ie Central Division. Before I left in September of last year, the goal of reducing our part time/full time ration was part of most of our weekly conference calls. Basically, it was stated that however possible, we were to reduce our full timers to at least 40%. Basically, we watched the Changing Status report (or whatever it was called) on Store Manager Workbench to see who was about to go part time and help give them a "push" in that direction. Luckily the contract didn't have any specification on ratios like yours did so there were no worries. As long as we hit all of the kids who didn't know any better about their rights under the contract, we'd get them down and keep them there. This kind of flakery was why I decided to leave the company, because it was and still feels kinda dirty doing that to folks.

kroger has been in my hometown and tri state are here at least 50 yrs- it's been here long enuf to have established themselves as a good, caring company that paid decent, fair wages and for the long term full time employees that made it the giant, successful company it has become today it was a steady, secure career where a person could eventually make it to retirement age (60) and enjoy their senior years.

however that all went south starting about ten yrs ago. master plans were developed to "Walmart" the company wherever possible.... the warehouses and drivers were all sold out to "logistics" companies that are cheaply ran third party operators where cheap cost/quantity is the king and quality an afterthought. then all the stores contracts began implementing low wage, multi tiered language and benefits were reduced. before long the chances of making a decent wage or career were dwindling away as more and more cheap 4 yr contracts were signed. employee turnover and poor quality of work from cheap part time help has become the norm rather than the exception.

like i mentioned before just imagine in 5 yrs when we achieve the 70% part time ratio what a demoralizing and uncaring work environment us "old timers" will have to suffer through. it'll be like an adult chaperone supervising a group of juv. delinquents at a Chucky Cheese birthday party. the company can always find ways and implement methods to attain cheaper costs but at some point the law of diminishing return kicks in and eventually u have sacrificed quality, good employees, and their long term future. BUT as long as the ceo is awarded 66% raises for almighty record profits then this shortsighted trend of continually downgrading the stores workforce and benefits then the OX is still in the Ditch and eventually rigor mortis will set in!

50% of hours != 70% of employees being part time
