I just started working at Kroger's and am still in my probationary period. I requested one day off so that I may travel to an interview I have for college, but Kroger had me scheduled for work. I told my supervisor earlier that week (and for that matter when I first stated the job) that I could not work that day and yet they scheduled me. What will happen next? The associate handbook mentions nothing of this type of situation, so I decided to ask the internet!
It's going to keep happening. My friend had jury duty, JURY DUTY, and he was still scheduled to work. My best advice is to get your priorities strait and follow them to the end. Good luck.

^Doesn't every workplace have to honor jury duty requirements? :S
Yes, they do. It's the law. They also have to reinstate at full seniority anyone who gets called up for active military service.
Just because they have to honor something doesn't mean they will not screw over anyone else working with them. 1 guy, 5 hour shift, ~300 piece order. Expected to be fiished by the end of his shift. (the other guy had an 8 hour shift but since he had jury duty it all fell on this guy)
Crazy, huh?!

It also doesn't mean they can't come right back at you in subversive ways. I've seen it happen. "Oh, jury duty, huh? No problem." Next schedule comes out: "HEY! I've been chopped down to eight hours this week! What is this, pay back for something I couldn't help?"
"NOOOOO......Just business needs, nothing personal."
A no call no show stay on your file for ten years, you can call off, and then explain the situation to management, a request is just a request something which alot of people have to understand, kroger does not have to honor it, and my thing is become friends with the person who does your schedules.
Our department head requests 6 week notice for requesting days off. Since you're on your probationary period, just explain the situation respectfully and you should be fine if they are half decent human beings above you.
6 weeks.....I don't think that's right? WHF? and about the other, just call in and explain...take documents from your college interview...**** like that happens all the time and it is not right.
Exactly. I have one of two employees to choose for full time status, guess which I'm gonna pick. The one is least a trouble maker and the most to help me.
6 weeks, is that even possible? How does anyone know what they're doing 6 weeks in advance. The few times i've needed to request days off, i do it a week or two in advance and i'm ok. then again i'm part time but still.
my first week i got a call for a interview with another job at 9:30 i was working a 6-12 shift that day told manger i had to go to denist he said fine just come back right after and finish shift added with hours you missed so i went too interview took two hours and clocked out at 2pm instead of at 12
i got the job also full time offering more$ but turned it down because i think i have found my soul mate at kroger and really wanna date this girl so i do not wanna quit or move to another part of store i just hope i'm makeing the right choice honestly if this girl wasn't here i would have quit kroger so fast they do not offer enough hours and have me at $7.30 hr where as i would have gotten full time starting at $9.50hr things men do for a women are endless

Um, you don't have to work at the place in order to date someone.
