Question about job bids and positions
Permalink

I just started working at kroger a month and a half ago. I'd like to sign a bid to become a dept head. How long must I work at roger before theyll let me sign a job bid. I understand it's based on seniority, If no one else signs the bid, do I get the job for sure, assuming I do well with the interview. Do I need to become a backup head before they'll consider me for a department head position?

Generally, you need to be a backup before they even consider you for a dept. head.  Under my contract, the backup with the most seniority who has applied for the position gets the job.  If no one applies, usually the current backup at that particular store becomes the dept. head.  If they don't want or can't do the job, the position is re-posted.  If nobody wants the job then it's offered to the employee in the department with the most seniority.  I'm not sure what they do if absolutely nobody wants the job.  Of course most of the time there's enough knowledgeable people in a department that they can run the department without a department head.  I know our deli dept. head does nothing except make out the schedule.
