My department manager is constantly going out of her way to screw with our night crew. Shes told midshift people to not clean at all that it is ONLY the NIGHT CREWS job. An the night crew as of late came in @ 7pm. We walked into dirty fryer, a dirty Rotisserie Oven, Bistro table and a sink full of dishes and the list goes on and on. This isnt the first time shes messed with us. Shes gone as far as having me close ALONE for about 4hours..and having the nerve to get me written up and on 6months probation. An everytime someone udders the word Union she goes on a wild rampage. I've tried getting involved with the Union..they havent been of much help..she goes through the new hires like candy..they either quit because of her abuse or end up getting screwed an terminated by being set up. How can I better this situation is there someone else that can be contacted besides union?? I'm scared to talk with any of the co-managers or the store manager because she seems to have them wrapped around her finger <.< ..the night crew at my store are the only ones that actually have to work..the whole day crew with the exception of one person actually works. an im often singled out an have a list of things that only i have to do..
Not an answer, just an observation...And it goes both ways here...But why is it that the night people always complain about what the day people don't do...and the day people always complain about what the night people won't do...I understand the drama and the tension, but at the end of the day, what gets done? I'm just saying...This is a universal problem, and teamwork sometimes seems like a lost art...
look into transfering. but just do what you can humanly do and no more. when she comes to inquire about what happened, tell he that "i did my best". if she tried to write you up, make sure you have ample union representation with you.
stand your ground!

In reality it is everybody's job to clean as they go. In my market during the day we have people who clean daily and take out boxes. We don't always get around to the box removal, but the blocks are usually cleared. You don't happen to work in the southwest division do you?

yes i do work in southwest division. and we complain not for no reason about the day shift..at our store theres alot of drama an favortisim..like really why should our back up be getting away with wearing nail polish with rhinestones on her nails??thats hazardous to the customer..ive witnessed her lose a rhinestone..but the department head allows her to wear it..o.o..an preps her food for her etc so basically they dont do anything but make a mess an leave 6wheelers stacked with garbage an never take it out.. an yes the deli does such but thats because who they gave the authority to over it. i got no mega problems with customers our customers in the deli are actually pretty good except like maybe 4 of em. i find it hilarious that bussiness picks up alot after my manager an back up deli manager leave its ridiculous.
is your deli manager named carolyn finch that sounds like our story at mississippi store # 472 we have even written human resources and nothing was done. management just keep turning and running to keep from hearing our complaints and never do anything to protect us. we too are being mentally and verbally abused and all they care about is the bottom dollar. now we why they went postal. i'll keep you in prayer.
I've worked for Kroger for about 2 and half years now part time and I've worked both meals in the morning and being a closer. When they do call you to "talk to the managers' always have the union rep. there with you listening to everything that is said between you and the managers; this person is "your witness". Also I would try to transfer to another store. The deli head sounds like a douche. But then again my manager is like this so I know what you are going through. Anyways it's not just the "night crews" job to clean. It's everyone's job to clean up their mess after they are done with their job. Also I agree compared to the day crew(full time people) they usually have 8 hours to get things done compared to (part time people) whom usually only have 4-8 hours to get stuff done. But depending on how big your department is they shouldn't being having you close by yourself and if someone calls out they are suppose to find someone to replace them. And there is usually no reason for day shift not to get their stuff done and have time left over. Because I usually get all of my stuff done on time before my 8 hour shift is over with two hours sparing to do whatever is needed to be done either it be helping on the counter, cleaning, or helping another co-worker with something.
