Extra day off
Permalink

I went to get my schedule one week and noticed that my hours were cut. I also noticed I had an extra day off. I didn't request it nor did I change my availability.  I asked if this could be fixed and was told there was no way. When I asked why I was told that sales were down because business was slow. I found out that there were more, but not all, people getting their hours cut as well. I suppose that this low-down, ****ass company don't figure on its employees needing to pay bills and put food on the table.

At this time of year there are always hour cut backs. most of the newbies are going down to 16 hours or so per week. Hours will pick up again once holidays roll around then slump off in january then back up again around april when vacations come around. It's all a big cycle. brave it out and it will come back around

We had a conversation to something like this earlier. Have two kids getting close to the 35hour average over 12 weeks to get full time. They say that when that happens I have to give them forty hours. I do not.

Only ones that are guaranteed 40 hours are those hired in on or before June15 of 2001 along with our seafood manager. CO-Manager said that I would have to get them 38 hours and I told him I could schedule them as low as 30 hours and they would maintain their full time benefits and pay. At the union meeting it came up for discussion. IF they can not get 40 then they can bump the least senior part timer in the district to get their hours. That would come down to the person writing the schedule , calling other stores to get them the hours they need and if they do not want to go to that store then they can decline the work and the hours and stay within what they are scheduled. Now if they would get to that point I do have one part timer and he has almost a year in. They can not bump his hours. They would have to look at other stores and the seniority of their part timers. So it is in their best interests to not piss off the market manager or the one doing the schedule. If they want the help finding the hours.
