aturday ill be doing paperwork to start working for kroger. Well next saturday i have a prior engagement which is a family reunion. I would like to go but if i cant it wont be that serious but i still wanna ask. Will it look bad to ask? Its paid for and everything and its only for a day.
oh ok well then on the day of your training i would suggest that you politely bring it up. tell them that it would be nice to be able to see your grandmother and aunt mary who you have only seen but once over the past 10 years if it is at all possible. most managers have some empathy for things like that. just be honest and nice and give it a try. doesnt hurt to ask and all they can do is say no right! good luck and have fun and be sure to come back here often to bitch about work LOL

You mean telling them that you can't come in the same day your paperwork and training has already been set? That doesn't make you look very dependable. Remember, first 90 days you are trial and can be fired for.any reason, so I wouldn't start off looking bad.
yea now that i re read you original post i have changed my mind. you have been scheduled and told to report on saturday. as of now you havn't mentioned to them about your prior engagement. time is ticking. for you now to go tell them about it would be very bad.

oh - well then just go tell them that you would like next saturday off for a really REALLY huge family reunion. embellish things a tad to make it a strong case. give them something in return like a nice "trade"
