I recently moved from deil department to the dairy when I got the back up position in our store.  They didn't move to the dairy until one week before the the head dairy man went on vacation so he didn't have anytime to train me.  They only scheduled the two of us, so we had to take the time to stock the department instead of spending it training.  In all I maybe got two hours of training .  Only thing that helped me was my experience when I was a frozen backup.

Well the week I was in charge I wasn't scheduled any help for two of the days and they refused to call anyone in even though I told management ahead of time.  Also I had to come in on one of my two days off because there was no one scheduled who could make the orders.  And the day I came in, they took one of the guys who was scheduled and moved him to another department so I had to help stock the order.  Because that week was also the first of the month and my help was stuck up front most of the time.

Anyway the week after on Monday me and the backup grocery man were called upstairs and I was bitched out for not having any backstock reviews done and the grocery guy for night crew not finishing orders on time.  When I told the manager my side of the story, no time, help up front and all that stuff, his exact words were "I don't care!"

So yesterday on Saturday I was called upstairs and written up for not doing the backstock reviews and read the riot act about key retailing and all that BS.  And he was going to write me up for not doing any on Friday when the Head Dairy man is off even though I did them.  Most of the order went on the shelf Friday and I only had to do one review all day.  Somehow it didn't show up on the store computer system which is a big pile of crap anyway. And I was also told that I needed to pick up the pace when stocking.  Never had a complaint in 8 years but I was told that I get the box off the cart to the shelf fast enough, but I took to long getting the product out of the box and to the shelf.  Never knew they timed that!!   To top that the so called shop Steward working that day didn't say anything.  She was actually taking the managers side!

Anyway I'm calling the area union rep. this week and filing a grievance.  I'm wondering what you guys think of this?  Anyone had a similar experience?

Typical monkey on the back scenario. He needs to knock off the shenanigans and realize you're trying and he's just making it worse.

Next time tell management that there is nothing in the Union Contract about case counts or having to work under a stop watch. We are paid by the hour. Tell them that you give Kroger an honest days work with the tools and training that they give you to work with. Sounds like this manager has no clue had to manage a store. Maybe just lazy. Who knows. Anyway your shop stewart should have stood up for you. Thats why you pay union dues. And the most importain thing to remember is : SIGN NOTHING!!! Hope everything works out for you.

Your steward is terrible. Talk to your union rep and tell them this happened. Stewards are NEVER to take the side of management, even if the employee is completely in the wrong.

Absolutely.  Having a union steward who sides with management is like having a defense attorney who says, "He's guilty, your honor."
