I'm a formal Kroger part time employee and I work meals in the morning sometimes. I've been working for Kroger for about 2 years now. Well a couple of days ago I worked meals in the morning and we ran out of 8 piece chickens. And we had some corporate people come in to check the store. Anyways my department had asked me to fill up the hen house and hot bar with 4 pc and what two 8 pc bags we had left so I did and everything was fine when I went home that afternoon. Anyways the following day I had to work meals again and again we did not have any 8 pcs bags. Well I had to go to meat department and use there thighs, wings, breast, and leg packages. Well I had to pull alot of it so I could get through out the day. Anyways my department manager said she told me to go back to the meat department and only pull a wing and breast package only one of each but I don't remember her telling me this. Anyways well the department manager of the meat department came back to me and asked me about it. So I replied that I had to pull his meat to get through out the day. Well I asked another employee to bring it to me because I was busy anyways that's besides the point. Well he said he didn't have anything left and that I'm suppose to ask him before I pull stuff from his department. Inwhich he did have a couple of packages left. Well out of the two years I've been working for Kroger NO ONE has ever informed me of this and I told him that I was sorry and it wont happen again. Anyways my store manager found out about this. So he told my department head to give me a note to file for not following her directions. So when I was working 9-5 today she came into work (worked 2:30-10:30 she was closing) and talked to me about it. She informed me that my store manager wanted her to give me a note to file and she also talked to the meat department head and he said that he didn't want me to get a note to file. So my store manager wont be working til Sunday and my department head is gone tomorrow and I'm off Saturday. So pretty much she isn't giving me a note to file. But anyways what bother's me is that I know I made a mistake and I was informed of that mistake and I said sorry and I accept it. But what I don't think is fair is I should be getting a note to file over something I didn't even know about and the fact that she didn't order any 8 pcs to come in the following day when normally the truck comes in. She is terrible at looking at stuff when things get low she just assumes. So I think it's messed up that he is trying to get me into trouble over something that wouldn't have happened if she had ordered the 8 pc order like she was suppose to do. And I even previously talked to her about us not having any 8 pcs and her reply to me was "I didn't order any because we had a big truck last Thursday" and my response was "well we only have one box of 8 pc left". All of this happened on the same day the corporate people came in. I just wanted to see what over people's view where on the whole thing or some advice I should look towards? Also my store manager is just a natural a**h***. I mean I accept my mistake but I honestly think I shouldn't be the only one getting in trouble for this mistake if it was part of my department heads mistake in the first place.
I work in a meat department and its always best to ask them for sure. There are some days we're running low on chicken or we might want for you to get it out of the back. Typically if the Deli comes over asking for chicken i'll give them the short-dated chicken to get it moved out and sold. Its a good way to reduce shrink and make a profit off the chicken too. What might of happened is that management might of came up to the department head and asked him why he was out of chicken. He probably told them that the Deli grabbed some of my chicken causing me to be out. Its true up to a certain degree, but its his fault for not ordering enough product to fill his counter. What should of happened was the Deli Manager should of been making calls and finding some chicken at another location to go get it to fill your needs for the day, but this person sounds very lazy. Anyhow, I wouldn't worry about it or stress over it.

Thanks for the advice it's been really helpful. Also I know with the union I think they are only allowed like 3 days until they can't give you a note to file for that reason. But yeah she is very lazy and she seems to do this alot.
What exactly were going to write you up for anyhow? I can't think of anything that could be done and i'm sure you did your E-40 for credit. If in the event they do try and write you up i'd contact your union representive.

sounds like your deli manager underbought for their product since you said they mentioned having a big truck thursday, but they didn't order enough to carry you through for what you needed between orders. this is an error on their part as they should be forecasting how much they'll need for every day between trucks and ordering accordingly, not doing a stockpile and sell down.
your meat dept could rightfully be upset about you taking something without asking the dept head, often times just enough product is ordered for the forecast for sales, and if you are taking something, it could be all we have for the rest of the day. then a comanager will come through asking us why we have none of a product. rule of thumb is ask and they'll help you with whatever they might be heavy on.
I've worked in a Kroger deli over a decade, my advice to you is to become the drone they want you to be. Obviously it was your department heads fault for not ordering the product, but because you mistakenly took the initiative to remedy the situation you got in trouble instead of the moron who didn't order enough chicken. Unless you are an eager beaver who is trying to slowly climb the food chain at your store I would advise against making any kind of decisions that might come back to bite you without first going to either your dep't head or store management.
So what the deli manager at 381 hasn't ordered chicken in 2 days we been out and don't have any cming in tommorow neither him or the assistant bothers to do their job but then the deli manager only shows up about 20 or 25 hours a week yet he is full time and gets dept head pay nothing is said or done so go figure.
