our morning chicken guy is going back to school. he has close to 10 years seniority. the next person w/ seniority should rightfully be asked if they want to do that position. can they say "no"? there are several people directly below the chicken guy who either do not wish to do or just plain and simple can not do that job. but its part of the deli and every one should be able to do all positions right?
the job pretty much will fall into my lap - which is great for me! but these 2 ladys who work there and think they can kind of "rule the roost" are plain and simple rejecting to do it. i don't think that is right, or correct. can you all tell me the true take on it?

seniority counts first and foremost only when everything is equal and there is no time restraints. if those above you are not able to do the job, refuses, places time restaints or is just nopt able to do THAT JOB , then the seniority is out the door and the best qualified person get the job.
ok but see here is a potential scenario that crops up ....
several people who have higher seniority than me have been asked if they wish to do morning chicken duties. for whatever reasons they have, each of them have said no. it then comes to me & I am more than happy to do it. but the lady who has seniority right ahead of me will then have her hours adjusted adversely (for the worse) as I leap frog over her and all the others into the 8am slot. all of this because the 1st person in line said "no thanks". i don't think that is particularly fair....

here is my take and what I have seen over the last two decades plus. If she decides to not take the possition and it does cost her hours, then fair or not, it is her choice. have seen several times where more senior members of the meat department are passed over for lesses seniority people because they can not do one thing or they do not want a certain schedule. I am now giving a new hire 8 to 16 hours more each week, because those that has more seniority does not want certain days or shifts. Life and kroger is not always right or fair but if someone restricts their time or shifts then what else is there to do? May not seem fair to you but if you are qualitied and willing to work the shift, then what is more fair in this case? let someone ( you ) have the job or give it to someone that does not really wany it or the shift.
i just had a revelation last night while sleeping!
if the morning chicken dude goes to night shift and I hop over 5 or 6 peoplle in seniority to do the chicken b/c they all been asked and do not wish to do it then in actuallity we are in the same situation as before b/c i am simply replacing the guy who is going onto night!
i was concerned that 1 or 2 people directly above me (higher in) seniority might get worse shifts b/c of this but it shouldn't matter right? boy - some times its like i have a rock in my brain clouding things up LMFAO. so now i can take the shift and not worry
