Wrongful termination?

Hello, I was a new employee for Kroger. I am 16 years old and worked with the company for 2 weeks and got fired. Management fired me because me and another employee found a discarded bottle slip worth 6.40$ in the bottle room, no one at Kroger informed me I was not allowed to cash in or "redeem" any slips I found. Management called me in and asked about it an I was 100% honest about finding it and trying to use it. She called me dishonest and til me I was stealing from the company. She never gave me any previous warnings about anything. She terminated my employment within 2 mins of me sitting down in her office. Is this just? Do I have a case? What Shold I do?

Anything that is worth cash, even cash itself that is laying anywhere on the ground in a Kroger will always be Kroger's cash from then on if you are an employee. As BagBoy mentioned, they are stupid about things like that. Anytime you find money laying around Kroger wants you to turn it in. Now you'd think it would be maybe in hopes it finds its way back to the person who originally lost it but in reality its because its revenue Kroger just made.

Well theft at Kroger's will result in immediate termination.  The fact that you admitted to taking the bottle slip doesn't really help your case much at all either.  I'm sure there are much more knowledgable employees who could put their two cents in about the situation.  You could try and contact your union representative, but i'm not sure how much they can possibly help you, seeing as how you admitted to theft.

I do not believe it was theft. He didn't conceal it and try to be sneaky, it seems like an honest mistake too me. How is finding an bottle slip on the floor considered theft if it was in no ones possession.

Kroger is stupid about things like this. All you can realistically do is move on. You were under your 45 day trial period and they found a reason to fire you.

I'm sorry. Good luck.

I'm sorry, but there is nothing wrongful about your termination. I'd like to point out that you've been there 2 weeks, which means they can let you go at anytime during the 45 day probationary period. The moment you told them the truth and admitted it is the moment you lost any ground to keeping your job.

Uh it is 60 days here for any reason and i agree common sense says that was theft. People just because you find it or have it does not mean it belongs to you.

If you didnt buy it or win it or it was given to you as a gift or prize or for services rendered then it is not yours turn it in to the proper people ie management who will probably keep it for themselves or the police
