Today I tried to call in OVER two hours before the start of my shift. I had been violently throwing up all morning and explained this to my store manager. She asked me what time I was scheduled to come in and I told her 10:30. She said "And you're just now calling in? You need to give more time for us to find a replacement" and told me that I had to come in and work until they could find a replacement, which probably means my entire 8 hour shift.
What is Kroger's policy about calling in? I thought it was two hours before the start of my shift, what is what I have always been told, and as a matter of fact, Last year I once tried calling in 3 hours before my shift and they told me to call back later.
Your Store Manager should be happy that you even gave a 2 hours notice. She sounds like a bitch. Tell her to take the thumb out of her ass next time and start calling people for the shift.

Don't know if it's the same all over but in the Mid South division it's an hour's notice. My problem is I live so close I don't even get out of bed until a half hour before I have to be at work in the morning.

A similar situation happened to me last year. I was in the exam room at the doctors office when I called in and our co-manager snottily asked what was wrong with me. When I told her my blood pressure was up and they were going to check me for pnuemonia, the bitch just hung up on me. It was more than three hours before I was supposed to be there so I know they had time to find someone.
This happened to be on a Sunday and the day of the WVU-Marshall game and from what I heard several people tried calling in, but I was the only one with a valid excuse. It wasn't pnuemonia, but I was off work for three days. Just no compassion at all.

You should of told her under the HIPPA Act you're not obligated to tell her whats wrong and that shes has no right to ask you about your medical condition. Just that i'm at the doctor and i'll have a doctors note when you come in.

Furthermore, if you handle any raw or unpackaged foods - deli/bakery, meat dept or cut fruit - they can't allow you to work anyway.
I'd consult the contract/handbook and see what the policy is. If you called with enough time and aren't already in the discipline steps, they can **** themselves.
I had a smartass manager ask what was wrong when I worked at a steakhouse when I was 18 and I called in. I was at the ER and I told him. I went into detail about my squirts and pukes. Old fart never talked to me again the whole time I worked there.
So I ended up going to work for 2.5 hours and leaving. I saw the new schedule before I left (which is what ultimately made me make this decision) and it was ALL ****ed up, all outside of my availability, was only scheduled on the days I CAN'T work, and outside of the hours I CAN work. This is three weeks in a row they have done this. So, I Didn't show up for my shift yesterday or today. They can go **** themselves.
anytime i was sick, i came in anyway, and then, let it fly, so they sent me home, couldn't get mad at me for calling in, and i got points for at least trying to work
