It happens in the bakery too, but the deli is way way worse, it's managed horribly unlike any other , the regular employees just keep on task and get everything done for them. Delegating task should not be belittling employees.
A lot of time you can plainly see that managers will only team up with one close friend co-worker that they work directly with. Then those two together tear down other employees if they so choose. This causes lots of turnover , and a horrible work place. With Fred Meyer priding itself in #1 customer service then why would it be ok for "Deli" management ? to give such horrible customer service ? If the store director could just see how his managers are treating their employees?
Managers have each others back , so when you go through proper chain of command, it gets you nowhere and causes trouble to only yourself. Deli - Food Managers stick together , and any others are just "simple" employees, no matter how many years of dedicated service.
DO A REAL STORE MORAL SURVEY . WEEKLY. small piece of paper that people are exspected to circle some harvey balls and write a small comment saying what is going on around there. It takes two minutes !

RE: Store 351 deli managers start an hour later and get a 30 - 45 min. break , before other employees get a 10 min break
do the same what can they say ur brake is too long u just say listen your my leader im fallowing my leader,or keep track of all thier brakes how long and if u can where they were&with this way if u happen to get pissed off or whatever the matter is call hr& they come investigate its called stealing time & let me tell u ralphs dont want to pay u too sit on your ass.
Haha, as an ex-freddies employee, I always called this "Manager-itis".
The idea that "managers" dont have to do any work. They just come in, sit on their ass, take long breaks, and delegate their actual responsibilities to everyone else (who isnt being paid to take up that responsibility!)
As a hard-working dept. manager who never delegated out tasks (except to give experience to employees, or to my 2nd on days off, etc.) and took full responsibility for my department, I was always shocked at how terrible most departments were ran. And nobody ever gave a crap.
Waste the company's money on excessive backstock and poor ordering? Why not. Waste wages on people who sit staring into space? Why not. Bring down team morale with yelling and belittling employees for no real reason? Why not.
Its why I got out when I finally just shook my head for the last time and said I couldn't in good conscinece work for a company that has such disdain for its employees, and their abilities to make basic decisions about the areas they are supposed to be managing!
