The employee that said this to this woman should be fired.

The employee was ignorant and she's stubborn. Why she didn't just have someone go to the meat department and get the cold alternative so that the situation would have been smoothed over is beyond me. She was the one who argued with the guy for half an hour after all. she could have walked out and wen to the walmart across the street at anytime.

Why is it up to her to leave though? Why shouldn't the manager be held accountable for what he said to her?

I know it's hard to not judge people, but we don't know everyones situations. Look at this case. Half of her day is spent hooked up to a dialysis machine, yet she got treated like a second class citizen because the manager assumed she was a lazy slob. What an ******* he was.

I have high doubts on her version of the story. I've have heard customers exaggerated circumstances often times and usually turn out to be a bunch of liars. An example was I had went out to take a 10 minute break and it was interrupted. I went back and 5 minutes later I get another call. This customer says that he has been waiting there 15 minutes. What a load of horse**** if I just came back in 5 minutes. I believe the woman is likely trying to look for some form of a handout. I understand the conditions of her kidney dialysis it is rough for sure, but there are alot of shady people on the food stamps plan.

Because she has free will in a free market and he's just some piss ant working for kroger.

She's being sensitive over food stamps, for god sake. She needs to get over her fear of being judged harshly by others.

If I was the woman I would have slapped his face. This happens all the time. People look down on people with EBT. We were told at our store not to call it "Food Stamps" seriously a lady was offended by someone saying "Food Stamps" What I have a problem with is people getting a thousand dollars a month and driving a SUV like a tahoe or any high class SUV. Yes it may not be theirs they could be using it. But there are several people who have that much on their EBT and drive nice cars. Not all of them are borrowing someone's car.

He still needs to be held accountable, especially as being a representative of the company. I don't care WHAT company it is, the remarks you make while working reflect on the company you work for. We don't know the managers name, all we know is that he worked for Kroger. You don't do that sh*t. I've had people make comments like that while I was on register and I say NOTHING. It doesn't matter if I agree or not. I keep my opinions to myself.

Also, it's human nature to have a fear of being judged.

However, you are absolutely right, she should have just left. I sure as hell would have. I wouldn't stick around to argue and be embarassed by someone. If that Kroger is anything like ours, the front end is busy as hell, and there were most likely a ton of people around. But I'm also a jerk at times and it would have given me great satisfaction to leave all my groceries there and would have told them to kiss my *ss when I walked out.

Maybe she didn't want the alternative.  When I was a checker I made it a point to know which items were food stampable and/or taxable.  If the checker had known this, the trouble could have been avoided.  Next, I would have contacted the deli so they could check their scale to see if it's printing out the right label.

I am sorry I said I would have slapped the managers face. Maybe he did deserve it but that's not really right. I truely don't think it was the main manager. I heard that that store has a fill in manager because the main store manager is out on leave. But anyway they should have known that you can get deli meat with EBT. It was a common error if the cashier would have just fixed it all this could have been avoided. Maybe I said this once but I say it again. If I was the lady I would have just said have the meat I will go somewhere else or I would have just left the store adn went somewhere else and got what I needed. I am really not sure why she drug this out still it was wrong for him to say that. Just because someone looks OK does not mean they are. And Kroger should be ashame for only offering $15.00 cupon. They should offer atleast $100.00.

Honestly I don't think a person should be able to get deli meat/cheese or anything out of the service cases of any department. We're providing a service for that product out of that case in some cases we could be steaming shrimp for someone on food stamps. This should violation with a persons food stamps since we are processing further.

Of course it varies from state to state, but where I work the only foods you can't buy with food stamps are hot ready to eat foods.  If you buy cold fried chicken, you can pay for it with food stamps.  If you buy hot fried chicken, you can't.

Food Stamps isn't about being living comfortable its about having food on the table. In most states they can't buy hot food, but they can buy cold food which to me is acceptable. Food Stamps is a temporary situation for temporary people.

There's two or potentially three problems here.

The first problem is that the woman probably doesn't even know what her food stamps apply to.  This happens all the goddamn time at my store.

The second problem is that the employee made a comment about working for a living.  Even though many of our EBT customers are illegals and deadbeats, it's poor customer service to call them on it.

The third potential problem is those poor overworked deli employees mislabeling items.  I feel for them, but damned if it doesn't cause me problems every now and then.

In my opinion, EBT should only be for basic staples such as rice and beans and such.  Like WIC.

If it didn't apply to lobster and steak, maybe some of these ****ers would get off their asses once in a while.

Oh come on. I know people on food stamps that work their a#ses off every day, yet the COL is climbing faster than their wages are. Not everyone on food stamps are pieces of sh*t. Don't paint everyone with the same brush. A lot of people use them for their intended purpose, to help them through a rough patch.

Did anyone watch her news interview? She said she spends 16 hours on dialysis a day. how did she have time to vene go grocery shopping much less spend thirty minutes arguing over what she wants her food stamps to cover. also if she was so ashamed about herr food stamps, why is she on national news about it??? so clearly she has already made two very blatant contradictions that everyone refuses to call her out on. there are always two sides to every story, its unfair to demand that manager get fired when we dont know the truth. its obvious everything she has claimed so far is a lie, so why wouldnt she exagerrate the statement the manager made, twist it so she can get more freebies. she already gets foodstamps so that might be her mentality.

They should seriously overhaul the food stamp system, in my opinion. If they would limit the types of people that were able to get them (only people that are truly disabled and unable to work), the manager would not have had the attitude that he had. This lady would have had no problem getting what she needed without enduring that nasty comment. I feel for her being lumped in with all the ones that are just there for the free ride. The manager should not have said what he said and should be disciplined accordingly, but the government is just as much to blame for letting the food stamp system get the reputation that it has.
