On Monday afternoon I was printing off an order guide from the copy machine when I came across a fax/email that was probably not supposed to see. (I am not a tech person but I know our copier serves as a fax machine also) Anyhow the email was from Kroger office here in Indiana and it has "high priority" in the subject line. Anyhow it stated that the UFCW 700 was distributing lapel buttons to its members in support of President Obama in the upcoming election. (Now I have several buttons from 2008 that just say "UFCW for Obama) I have wore these from time to time this year. Anyhow the email read that Kroger employees were not allowed to wear these types of buttons in support of political canidates. Later in the email it stated that we would be asked to remove them and if there was refusal disciplinary action would be taken. I'm not sure why Kroger is making a stink about this now, when in 2008 we were allowed to wear them. Has anyone else heard about this?
I am voting for Obama-however I would not want to wear a button stating so in my little backwards hicktown. I never talk politics where I work..it goes nowhere fun.
I have not heard about this. I'm blue living in a red state. No funsies. Andplusalso, work is the last place I want to discuss politics, wearing a button is opening myself up for a political discussion that I don't want to have with either my co-workers or any customers.
