Local 1000 total failure to reopresent its member (s)
Permalink

The following is a copy of a letter sent to the international office. I have to wonder if they ever follow up on complains. towards the locals. This is a case where they never did and the local 1000 rep and president failed to do their job as they are paid to do. Just believe that  a number of their reps just do not care if they do their job or not. In a right to work  state they better.
=============================================================
Thank you local 1000
After being held hostage for 67 days, our employee , ( kroger store 526 and a loocal 1000 member ) has called and end to the situation. Just looking at the contract, she said she should be at least at the $10.20 rate with 6 years in with Kroger. That is the top pay for part timers and she is only getting $8.30 an hour. She would like to stay with Kroger but considering that the local 1000 staff ( president Ricky Burris, Union Rep Rudy Anderson and shop stewards Angela Johnson ) failed to even fight for her, she turned in a notice and got another job. It is with Car Toys and will pay her about $11 an hour. As she had stated to me, she would like to have stayed with Kroger but with her pay screwed up and the TOTAL LACK OF UNION ACTION , what am I to do ?
So the count of union member being held hostage needs to end at 67 with the full knowledge that Local 1000 is responsible for this member leaving and not Kroger. Now one has to wonder about two points here. Is it worth being a dues paying member ( right to work state ) when a member gets so discouraged about lack of contact ( keep in mind that this is far longer that the 60 plus days here ) from a rep ? The other item is how can one justify recruiting new employees , into the union , when they here the true stories of members waiting months to get a rep to contact them? When asked why should I join the union, by new employees, I can let them know with great confidence about local 540 and its track record. But then when new employees are asked my opinion from our sister local 1000, I just find it difficult to support them and give them my opinion of not joining depending on who their rep is. I once believed that one could contact the business office directly and get a reply back but that can not even be a viable option to get help. And up until know, it was always a good suggestion to contact the international office. But that has failed miserable in this members case. So as time goes on and new employees are brought on board, I find it difficault to ever want to recommend joining the local 1000 because of the representation issue. A good employee is leaving for what will be a wash on pay, because The international Office failed to get any action out of Local 1000. It failed because local 1000 president Ms Burris did nothing or failed to follow up. It failed because The union Rep Ignored a complaint for many months , not weeks, with failed attempts to try to contact the member. And it failed because a high ranking steward and official could not find the time to follow up on something over ( not days or weeks ) many months.
Now I do know that the international has not set on their hands and did contact local 1000. I know because the complaints came back to me in the form of butt out of it. The problem is the follow thru or lack there of that is causing a union member to leave the job and give up on the union. It also will make it difficult for me or any other member to ever want to recommend the union to any new hires.
Now as I post this on krogertalk.com and the kroger employee forums, I have to wonder what is more difficult? Getting Walmart to let a Union representative to talk to their employee`s or getting a Union Rep ( local 1000 ) to get back to their members in some timely manner and not take months to get a sit down and discuss a matter with them? One think I would like to see ( and it will never happen ) is for follow up on any complaint that come your way when dealing with a local, especially when another local member has to help in the contact information for a fellow brother or sister. I guess what I have been told is true. We are all brothers and sister of the UFCW and should help all members when it is needed. Just seems the part about butting out was omitted when it comes to different locals involved.

Thank you
sincerely your
Still a member I think

The next question will be if the international office will ever realize the ineptment of the local representatives from local 1000 and do anything about it. My prediction is no.

 Judging by what I've seen on here alone, I totally agree.

  will not totally argue that piont but will have this to say.

Have had several times been told that kroger does not want to get rid of the unions but would like more say over them.

With that , kroger can proundy say wee are union, but be able to work at the compeditors lever ( very low union standards and no threats from the union ) and not worry about the cost of doing bisiness with the unions
