So I have been waiting to promoted to a Grocery Manager or Frozen food and it seems that it will not be happening anytime soon, Ive been approached about taking over the nutrition department so I can fix the back room since the lady we have doing it is terrible. Since there are no job postings on the Kroger website, how should I find out if stores need Grocery/Frozen managers. I am tired of just waiting for a spot to become available when I am ready to promote, I live in Dallas and there is a bunch of Kroger's around and im sure ONE store needs managers.

They're likely telling you this because you're a good worker, but don't want to leave or pay you at the same time. Its an attempt to keep your hopes of being promoted up while keeping their department in good shape.

Totally agree. I've seen this too many times in retail. Generally, if they want you for management, they'll come and get you.

Well Id agree to that as well, but they arent wanting me to stay in Grocery, they want me to become a "Sub Department Manager" for Nutrition, The only thing is I dont know if I would get paid any differently than I do now. I know nutrition is under Produce, but I think its just a way to get me to stay at the store I am, and to fix the backroom because nutrition is totally screwed

I will agree with what NOC and Cutter said. One thing is to stay concistant, keep up good work, and let word travel thru co`s fellow workers and M.R.s . look at your seniority and you can always ask your union rep if they here anything. If you are in Dallas then check on the new store that is to open on Haskell by the end of this year. Also make sure they know you wil be able to travel or move to another store.

We have had a spot open for a Market assistand for many months and it is still open. know of 5 people that wants the position but not willing to drive the distance to fill the spot .

Thank you for your advice, I am meeting with the Store Director tomorrow before he leaves on vacation. I might not have senority over everyone in my store, but I am the only person that is ready or eligible for a promotion or so I am told. So hopefully I get good news because he called me wanting to discuss something with me. I know my name has been getting thrown around in conference calls when they ask if we have anyone ready to promote to grocery manager. And I would be willing to travel if the pay is decent. I got a few different co-managers at several different stores that are trying to help me as well. So I hope soon I will get my wish..
