The thing about the internet is that it connect people across the globe and country to keep people informed of other parts of the country. Yet, the union never seems to actually put forth resources into the internet. I'm not sure if these guys are just old time people who don't know how to work a computer, but we could provide so much more assets into computer technology to reach members. I had suggested to my representive that we should make a social media group on facebook entitled "UFCW Local 540" of course naturally the idea was immediately shot down. It would be nice to see them broadcast our monthly meeting online and archive them for members. Naturally of course they would say that there are those who aren't affilated with the union that would pry and sneak to see exactly what is said and being done, but this could easily be averted by requiring users to register and provide the last for of their social security connected to a database to match that member when they created a username. It could also make it to where members could give back feedback, file grievance, or raise concerns online with their representives.

Yes for organized labor they really aren't organized in terms of the internet. They could easily organize people online from Walmart through a database. Perhaps if I could get into a higher position in the union I could be the next Jimmy Hoffa without the disappearing act.

I don't know about Kroger, but Walmart has literal teams of managers scouring the internet for anti-sites. I've been to district office meetings on this (as well as other topics, like how to kill union activity). The unions will probably never get into Walmart-----every time there has been a success, like two stores in Canada, or the meat dept. in a TX store, they were CLOSED. So we're cut out of that loop.
HAHAHAHAHA.....There's a web site called 'WALMART BLOWS'. If you dig behind the scenes, you'll find that Walmart bought that site. The same old members keep on a' posting away on it, completely unaware. Facebook has an ap called I HATE WALMART; I had a union guy call me and turn dime on one of our employees for being on it. I looked. Indeed, he was there (IDIOT, he used his real name and picture)......I quietly had a 'come to Jesus' talk with him. I could easily have fired him. He grew quite pale.... Next time I looked, he wasn't on there anymore.
So, anyway: As Kroger is unionized, all your points are valid. Why don't they have the internet on their side? It's like the difference between reading about North Korea NOW, and reading about it in the freakin' paper. Three days later.
Well the problem is that Walmart will close only 1 or 2 stores because its not going to hurt them, but if you have a dozen or so stores that's a very different story. I would also assume to close a store due to union assembly would also be illegal.

Do they have a website? UFCW 75 has both a website as well as an active FB page. It only makes sense to use social media in your favor. They could also make it private where members have to ask to join, too.
When the Wal-Mart butchers joined the Union, Wal-Mart retaliated by allowing their butchers to keep their job title and pay, but the butcher area closed. The butchers were then scheduled to stock shelves and unload trucks. Wal-Mart started bringing in processed meat from non-union packing plants.
