A remodel sure is a big deal. They have painted the inside of my store. And built a conference room and took out the wall between the old conference room and breakroom. Now we got a bigger breakroom. Also remodeled the restrooms. The contractors seem nice but today someone I guess either Kroger contracted or the contractor contracted someone to drop an air condictionar on top of the building to the new conference room. I was minding my own bussiness doing what I was told cleaning off the top of the ice machine. The man I guess he worked the crane. He was inside saw me and asked "Did you decide to do that right when we are going to drop and air condictioner on the roof?" I didn't really know what to say. I just said yes. I was a little shocked at his attitude. Anyway he said "I really would like it if you would move so we don't drop an air condictionar on you head" W.O.W what a jerk. I mean what's his problem? I should have told him if he dropped an air condictionar on my head that I would drop one on his. Also the man that was standing inside infront of the ice machines was yelling at customers telling them to move.
My store is almost finished with a remodel. It tends to be a stressful time for everybody. The contractors are almost completely finished. The last two weeks were pretty intense, with all of them working overtime to try to get stuff finished by the end of last week.
They may not always be the most gifted folks when it comes to public relations skills. I have several friends who are in the construction industry, and they are generally as good of people as you'll find in any industry. That means you'll have nice guys and jerks.
Also, remember that the contractors are probably under a lot of stress. Just as we (associates) often hear complaints from customers during a remodel/reset, the contractors hear some of that, too. Plus, they have to deal with frequent change orders from the company. There are few things as frustrating as finishing a task, doing a good job, and then being told, "Oh, no, I think we'd rather have it a different way!"
At my last store, I was cussed out several times by customers frustrated by the reset we did. We didn't have many contractors in, since it wasn't a remodel (just a little replacement of light fixtures, a few new cases, etc).
In other words, try to let it go. Should the guy have been rude? No. But there's also a good chance that he didn't necessarily mean anything by it. In another situation, he might be a nice guy. Just think of how great the store will look when all the work is done! We've already been getting compliments for the last couple months from our customers, along with the usual "OMG, I can't find anything!" complaints from a few. Good luck!
