Vacation
Permalink

So yesterday was my 1 year anniversary, and this means I get one week of vacation, which I have had scheduled in November for a while now.

I logged on Express HR and it says I have 2 personal days available but no vacation.

My vacation is still scheduled, right? Why isn't it listed? Am I being paranoid?

it might take a little bit to get all information updated. you should wait a few weeks to make sure... but if you have a scheduled vacation already then i don't see why they would take it away from you.

How should we know if your vacation is still scheduled?  You did put it on the official vacation schedule back March, didn't you?  If you did, then you need to get with your supervisor and have them look at the vacation schedule.  If you didn't, then you still need to get with your supervisor so one can be scheduled.

Maybe it varies by store (I'm in the Cincinatti/Dayton division) Because all the other part time people have gotten a week of vacation... not necessarily 40 hours, but a week of days off. And my vacation is on the calendar for being November 4th-10th. And also, everyone gets 2 personal days here. I do know that for sure because I was told I have to take them by the end of the year.

But it's still listed as 0 vacation days so if it doesn't change soon I'll have to wait and see what happens I guess...

thats why. it averages out the amount of hours out. it sounds like you only have 16 hours vacation

yea if you are part time then you don't get a full week of vacation after a year.  here is the way vacation time works -  the computer adds up all the hours that you worked during the year. it then is divided by 52. this is how many hours you get.

I'm also in the Cincinnati / Dayton division and here is how it reads per the union contract....

part timer associate will be entitled to vacation...  ...figured on the number of hours worked in the year in which the vacation is earned divided by 52.

so lets say you work 8 hours in a week.  that would be 8 x 52 / 52 = 8. you would only get 8 hours of vacation time for that year.

I know how to stop management from calling people in or having them work on their vacation. I propose that in future contracts we state that if a employee is called in on their vacation upon agreement of both parties the employee shall be paid 1 1/2 overtime. If they REALLY REALLY need that person and can't afford to operate without them they should be extremely compensated.

Min Wage
$7.35 x 40 = 294

Overtime
$11.02 x 40 = 441

Who could say no to that?

Ok thanks thedude, that makes sense.

I still don't understand why all the paperwork i've been given (and what was been posted in the bakery as well), listing everyone with their vacation time available states that I get one week of vacation (with the average of hours factored in) PLUS two personal days (again with the average of hours for those days) and yet the vacation's not listed in Express HR yet, but the personal days are.

Thedude, does your store do this the same way? Do part time people get 2 personal days?

Sorry for making such a big deal about this, lol

I was wondering about this too. I was worried that because I'm part time I'd only get part-time vacation pay, like, say (hypothetically) part time ends at 26 hours, after which you make full time. I think it's actually 32, but I could be wrong. Anyway, I was worried that I'd only get paid for 26 hours of vacation time (which would RUIN! my vacation, since I live pretty much paycheck to paycheck and would rather work and earn a good amount of money rather than not work and be screwed for a couple weeks). I checked my express HR and it says I have 37. So that's cool. I am one of the lucky ones who gets 40 hours even though I'm part time. Every once in awhile I get kicked back down, but that's just to keep me part time.

You better check your contract.  Under our contract vacation pay for part-timers is as follows.

average 20 hours or less a week= get paid for 10 hours

average over 20 hours up to and including 30 hours a week = get paid for 20 hours

average over 30 hours a week= get paid for 30 hours
