i work in the fuelcenter. one of my coworkers took medical leave for a surgery she is not having surgery due to having mono. so shes coming back to work. we are all worried of catching it. what can we do. she has only been off work a week and found out mono tuesday. they say if she has a statement to come back there is nothing they can do..help
Well....If she's been off for a week, she's probably on antibiotics. And if so, after 24 hours she is no longer contagious and any doctor in his right mind wouldn't send a contagious person back to work to infect others, so I think you're probably safe.
She's still pretty contagious. People are usually contagious for up to 6 months (or longer!) after they first get symptoms. Sanitize, do NOT share any drinks or food or any sort of swapping of saliva.
I had it way back when I was in high school and I was out of school for a month because of it. I was so sick, and exhausted. I would be amazed if she lasted her entire shifts.
You're correct and I was wrong. I looked it up and it seems that even when the person has healed, they will be contagious for up to 18 months and carry the virus for life. I don't see mono being a huuuuuge epidemic though. Maybe you'll be okay?
If it was that easy to be transferred from person to person, wouldn't everyone in the world have gotten sick and died from mono already? I mean surely someone can't stay in their house for 18 months can they, lol.
Still I understand your concern being stuck in that little fuel center building :o
I did some more research and mono is spread through direct contact with saliva, (hence it being called the kissing disease). So as long as you aren't having clandestine 'meetings' in the fuel center, I really do think you'll be fine. Wash your hands frequently!

A vast majority of people are carrying the virus at one point or another. Whether you get sick from it or not is a whole other thing. At 18 months they're still shedding the virus, so it is entirely possible to get it from someone who either didn't know they had the virus or had it awhile ago that they didn't even think it was still "there", so to speak.
