I'm just burned out of my department. I can't take working in the deli anymore. I hate how slammed we always are and I can't stand my management or coworkers. They always wander off to go chat, or they go find something else to do so that they won't have to wait on counter and that leaves me stuck by myself waiting on a line of 7 or 8 customers. If I walk off to do something even for one second I get asked "can you get the customer?" even if the other people aren't doing anything.  If I'm a minute late coming back from my break the manager always makes a snippy remark at me. Hell, sometimes when I'm 15 minutes exactly he makes a remark at me, and when I point out that I wasn't late at all, he says "I don't know, it feels like you were gone a long time!" Of course, when some of my coworkers go off for break for 20+ minutes and nothing gets said to them.

I want to transfer to bakery or to Starbucks or pizza shop. When I ask to transfer they say "sorry there's no opening" but then the new people hired for the deli get taken to the bakery a day later.

I wish I could just leave. I'm looking for a new place to work but so far the search hasn't been going well. I'm really unhappy at Kroger though.

Im really sorry your being treated this way. When I first started over five yrs. ago I started in the deli and would get no help, large lines, ect. I know the constant feeling of desperation. There were times that first couple weeks I thought I was going to break down and cry(I was hired around this time of yr.) It really sucks. Im guessing the reason you're getting crapped on is b/c you are good at what you do, and you havent said anything yet. Its probably time to start getting loud. If you are a union store you could go to them, but sometimes that isnt the best course of action. You are just going to have to find your voice, tell them you need help, that you dont want the customers waiting so long to be served, ask stupid qustions, do anything you can to let them know you're there. They will either get mad and send you to someone else, or send some help out w/ you to shut you up!

um do you work with me in my deli?  Here is what I would do. SLOW DOWN!  Find the "I don't give a sh*t" attitude.  Slice really really slow - at a snails pace. Don't ask for help. They should realize that. Don't comment back to their silly remarks. Just say "ok". Let things collapse around you. But don't be the fall guy.

Just take your time and be friendly. If you are the only one helping customers then customers will complain or it will be noticed you're the only one working. Realize you put in your 8 hours or whatever and who cares how quickly you get it done if they are going to be ungreatful. When your lead asks where you've been tell them you were talking with managment or helping a customer. If there is a line and someone is standing around, ask them if they mind helping. If all else fails, cut off a finger in the slicer.

Everyone hates the deli at our store. Try to switch departments

That's because deli is lame. I'd rather be keeping busy in bakery than standing around helping customers in deli. We're supposed to keep an eye on the counter, but there's only so much to clean on a slow day, so you do end up standing around until a manager or DH comes over and tells you to find something to do (usually wiping down a counter absentmindedly in the same spot that was already clean, haha).
