Me: Sir, please empty your cans before inserting them into the machine.
Customer: This is how I always do it (continues putting full bottles into the machine).
Me: ............
The thing is during our busiest days customers always complain about machines being out of order. Our store just bought brand new machines and now they are already going out. I'm telling you, this is why they always go bad. These machines aren't built for full cans and plastic. it screws up the motor.
Dear Customer , Please don't rush and bitch at me because the machines aren't being fixed as fast as you want , because if you had somewhere to be , you wouldn't be here at kroger with 3 carts full of cans .
interesting! does it take glass bottles or just cans or what? how does it know if the can came from that state or not? what are the 11 states that use them?

It's 10 states, btw. Guam is included, but it is a territory. The site also includes how much the deposit is for each state. California does it differently than all the other states though.
They get recycled. It's hardly wasted space. Ohio needs to do it. When I lived in Michigan as a kid we'd scour the town looking for cans to return. Everyone did. It's not rocket science that it is beneficial to all.

I've had that happen before. We had two out of four machines that were out. She brought two huge trashbags filled with cans and plastic. She said that she had a family of four to feed and it was a ridiculous wait. She was so rude to the kid that I was training... it was ridiculous. We ended up counting over 200 cans manually so that she would go away. Customers feel that once they enter the store, they must stay and wait. They are free to leave if they want. Don't threaten me with "we won't shop here again" bs because for every one customer that never comes back, we get up to 10 new customers. That's how busy we are.
There is also an issue with trash in the recycle bags bin. Customers throw trash in the bins even when there is a big brown trash can right by the bin. I got to where I just empty the bin by pulling the bag out with the trash in it. Im not digging the trash out. I remember the days when we had a newspaper recycle bin in the parking lot. This was a deal with the local paper and a local paper plant. People would put plain out crap (Sh**) in there.
I sussposed you the customer pays to return the bottle?
You get money for every can you return. In Michigan it's 10 cents. Turn in 10 cans, you get $1, turn in 100 cans, $10. Easy peasy. I think everywhere else is 5 cents though. Makes me sad I live in Ohio where I have to pay my city almost $1 per bag to take my trash...I recycle more so that I use fewer trash bags. Smart move on their part, I guess.

I remember one time I was sorting through the trash/recycle stuff for cardboard to take to the cardboard baler. It was one of my first times doing bottle room and I cut myself on some glass shards in one of the trash bins. The blood was just dripping from my finger. Ever since that day I've worn gloves 24/7 in the bottle room. Seems like you can cut yourself on almost anything in there.
