Its retail jobs period that start at minimum wage, not just Kroger and Wal-Mart.
That's not true.
Kroger is below minimum wage because of union dues.
But the fact of the matter is, retail jobs are generally minimum wage jobs, just like those in the food service industry.
With union dues, you're paying for a service (whether you get it or not, and whether you need it or not..much like life insurance). Do you take into account your deductions for health insurance? I haven't gone to the doctor at all this year, but I keep getting suckered into paying for health insurance.
wal-mart would win that war. kroger would **** hostess up worse than hostess ever did in their entire existense. wal-marts a leader in the retail world....kroger is a chump ass wanna be......buy hostess negro pleeeeeeze.

This really isn't that valid of an argument, IMO.
Union dues are not the same as health insurance. You're reaching. The unions don't really do anything for the workers anyways. Well, at least the Kroger union.

I'm not reaching. A deduction is a deduction. What if you voted no on a tax increase in your community yet it passed, then you're being paid less than minimum wage by your standards. Or whomever keeps running around saying they're making less than min. wage, it's hard to keep your anonymous people straight. You pay for the "what if". Your union is only as good as the people running it. Just like your store is. If you don't want to pay union dues then don't work in a union shop! It's really quite simple! Or get a non-union position within the company.
I was paying 17 cents an hour for union dues for a 40 hour week. Big deal. I still wasn't making under minimum wage.
Hostess would be a smart investment for Kroger. How many people here really understand how Kroger operates it's finances? We're a shrewd company, and we're a company that is making a f***in' KILLING off of banner brands. I, for one, hope that MY company is able to snap up a brand that people have such an emotional attachment to, as opposed to our competitors.
What's funny is that I actually talked to someone in Kroger middle management about this when word came down Hostess was done. We both kind of saw this coming.
We're a company that is reinvesting in it's own stores, investing in training workers (I know, HA HA, not in most departments) and expanding services, and investing in it's brands.

Hahaha.
I am absolutely not a kiss up. I'm a pushy, bossy ass steward that tries to maintain a cordial relationship with management because I often have to fight with them when it comes to my coworkers. I try to maintain the atmosphere and relationships that reinforce that it is never personal, and ALWAYS business, so that if I have to be aggressive or make them do something they don't want to do, they will still work with me in the future without being vindictive and ****ty.
