they want us to stand at the back with the portable and direct customers to different units.

they want us to watch the lines at registers and grab people with carts of groceries and scan for them if the registers have more than 1+1.

they want us to "fluff" customers err bags.

they want us to watch for theives and walkoffs even though only designated employees may confront or pursue according to the handbook... and for us that means a manager.  our store only has a uscan attendent, no rent-a-cop.

the uscan station is at the front with the casher drawer, phone, charging station and other stuff where we're not supposed to stand. 

we're suppoesed to mingle and interact with the customers as they check out.

we get yelled at if we're not doing all of these things at once.

 Yeah right. I don't particularly see that happening when some dip**** can't figure out why the machine isn't working and calls for an attendant and blame the machine when in reality its one of their kids leaning the weight sensor part.

That's what the handheld is for. You can take care of all of those situations without going anywhere near the attendant's station. If you cut out the time our attendants spend there just being lazy or bored, they're not even over there 5% let alone 10-20%.

 I would assume that they would need to check and see what exactly is going into bagging. There has been times where i've thought something was scanned and the alarm goes off and they pass me through. In reality the item didn't scan and brought it to their attention.

A previous manager constantly bitched at me to pull customers out of line.

When I would leave U-Scan to pull customers out of line, she'd bitch at me to get back to U-Scan.

Hilarious.

Yes I agree I have the same problem. They want me to grab customers out of line and bring them to uscan, but I end up doing it for them because they don't have a clue on how to use uscan. While I'm distracted people are stealing, putting in wrong produce codes, leaning on the bagging area, and other general aggravating stuff.

I never grab customers and pull them into U-Scan. As far as I'm concerned, that is the supervisor's job... and the customer's choice whether they want to use the U-Scan or not.
My "engaging" consists only of communication to help them with their order, unless they want to talk.
The only customers that I am watching for customers that are actually in my U-Scan.

Our job is hard enough, without having to deal with all this foolishness. As long as all the orders are being scanned accurately and the customers are happy, then that is all that should matter.

I never understand the logic of pulling people into U-Scan. Some people don't like the U-Scan, and would rather have a cashier.
