I am going to begin my second job in January but because my new employer is on winter break I don't know exactly when I will start. Currently I work at a Houston-area Kroger as a courtesy clerk and I would like to know which of the 3 options I should take:
1. Quit
2. Transfer to a store closer to home
3. Ask for reduced hours. Work at least 2 days a week instead of 4 days.
Which option will take the least amount of time to complete before I begin working? I believe that I might be able to juggle both jobs at the same time. If I worked at Kroger for a Saturday or Sunday then it might be possible.
Who should I talk to at my store for scheduling?
Additionally, I hate being a courtesy clerk because I was originally hired in grocery. If I managed to get back into grocery would they make me work more than 16 hours?
you will be getting well over 28 hours on average in grocery vs front end. and theyre are people at the store i work at that are only available one day a week, but if you need to money i would stay available for at the very least 4 days and make your hours available fit your schedule with your other job and sleep
Okay if I worked on the weekends for 16 hours I might be able to do that, but this store has never given me a set schedule as a grocery clerk or a front-end clerk. I was able to work during the afternoons but the days were constantly changed.
Maybe I can work 3 days a week and have most of my hours during the weekend. Who should I speak to at the store to negotiate my hours and make this possible?
also even if you get into the grocery department or whatever, you should still expect to spend time bagging or fetching carts or maybe even learning how to run a register...

Just go to any of the Co Managers or the Store Manager and tell then whats up. Let them know that things are changing in your personal life and for the unforeseen future you are wishing to just work on weekends. If they are unable to accomodate, then walk away and come back the next time you go to work with your 2 week notice.
Good Luck
