They're always running out of money; I have to wait around on an attendant to bring me my change.

I want to know why does it always give me 2 dimes and a nickel instead of a quarter?  Here I am feeding it coins so it comes out to be an even quarter dollar and it's spitting more coins back at me.

U/Scan continuously crashes because management is always adding new programs and NOT adding more memory. Each bot should be rebooted every day, including the attendant station. And in regards to them being out of money, if the early morning attendent would do a "bill check" every morning, relay the totals to the accounting person, that problem would be avoided.

For some reason, ours work fairly well.  Other than being thief and idiot magnets, the only real problem is the morning people constantly "forgetting" to fill them.  Every now and then, they all run out of cash.  How fun is that?

We have more problems with the battered abused ipads.

Every time one breaks, the next one we get is even more beat up and less functional.  The number pad on the latest one is completely worn out and you might as well not use it.  There was a week the laser didn't work.  A day where the screen went black.  The screen recognizes presses, but doesn't register them unless you stab it with a ballpoint pen.  And then, I'm the only person who calibrates the screen, so the keypresses are always 3/8" away from where they should be.  Our battery packs wore out years ago and some only last 15 minutes.  The charger is missing bits so we need to stack 4 rolls of Catalina tape on top to get it to charge.

My favorite part is the clips on the sling.  Those kept breaking and coming off, so everybody just kept wrapping them up with tape, rubber bands, twist ties, and staples.  It looked like a grade school project.  The last time it came off, I just replaced it with a keychain split ring.  Idiots.

We got a uscan at my store in the summer of 2006.  The machines came from a store down south that had closed and they sat in our back room for three months before they were installed.  Even though it was 2006, the operating system was Windows 2000.  Though they finally updated the OS, it's only up to Windows XP like the PCs in the store.

At least once a week at least one of the uscan crash and have to be closed or something breaks and it doesn't give the right change etc;

If you're using an Express bot, you might only get $1s and $5s because they don't have a $20 cassette. Use the carousel. It will have $20s.

If your sco robots are that bad don't talk to management. You need you district front end manager from corporate. They will give you more ways how to fix them and the will look into getting the replaced when the do key retailing and talk to management. They cost 10000 each bot.call the help desk or Fujitsu until the problem is fixed. Customer service is your best friend when fixing something in the front end

Uscan is the idea of a complete IDIOT. Anyone who knows about computers knows how fast they are outdated. All ours have failing memory. It's next to impossible to get the indians to send a tech to repair them. For all the SHRINK it causes they are losing more money than they would to open some damn lanes. I like to call it the SHRINKHOLE. People are NOT smart enough to ring up all their groceries correctly ESPECIALLY produce. I can't imagine how kroger convinces people they care about customer service and send them to ring themselves up. In the same way they convinced the employees that 1+1 was to help customers more effectively when it is actually to have people working twice as hard under threats and harassment about scores to keep their own hours down. The new uscan thing is to alert the attendant that a customer needs assistance when they do not. If I have too much going off that I can't attend to immediately I will now put the customer assistance prompt on the back burner because 99% of the time no one knows why I came over to help them because kroger decided spamming the palm pilot with prompts is a good idea.

I hope you aren't talking about the cash that goes into and comes out of uscan. Because I can tell you with certainty that it is not any easier to steal money when dealing with uscan than it is to do it at any other register. 90% of the uscan attendants cannot get the key to open the units up and access the bulk cash stored inside, which leaves them only having access to the attendant's station till. That till has arount $800 average, while a standard checklane till starts out with $690 and can easily get over $2k before it calls for a pickup.

I don't know.

Once you figure out how the machines work, it would be easy enough to steal.  Produce would be no problem, and it would be completely easy to switch out items of similar weight.

What our openers are doing these days is only putting a couple bucks into the empty machines.  The other machines start running out of cash in the early afternoon, and then maybe the other machines later in the day.  We generally have a machine or three making us dispense change all day.  It's fairly stressful.

What's involved in putting money in the machines?  Don't you just put a handful of cash into the cassette and click it into the machine?  Is there something difficult that I'm missing?  Is there some reason why they might not want to just fill them up?

While it is possible to swap out items of a similar weight, the uscan bag scales are sensitive down to .04 lb. This is why it's so important for the attendant to pay attention to those weight differences.

Putting cash and coins in the machines is very simple. If your machines are constantly running out of cash, your accounting person is wholly disregarding one of their primary responsibilities. They are supposed to keep them stocked with cash.
